LOOKING TO TRADE CABINS WITH ANOTHER PASSENGER!!

Recommended Posts

Good morning all, if anyone that is going on the Mariner Sunday May 2nd is still at home and reading this post,I have a request or more like a plea. My husband and I will be on the ship for our 30th wedding anniversary.Several weeks ago I requested a handicapped cabin for my husband as he is disabled and can only walk short distances because of his disease. Unfortunately the handicapped cabins were all booked (weather by people with real handicaps or not, Im not sure) so we were not able to get one. I than asked if it were at all possible to get an oceanview stateroom more toward the back of the ship since all the restaurants and such are mainly in the back and would be a great help to us. Unfortunately RCL didnt take this into consideration and gave me a "mid Forward ocean view " cabin on deck three, This is going to be very tiring for my husband and myself pushing him in a wheelchair for seven days on days that he can not make it on his own. If there is ANYONE with a handicapped room that does NOT need it, or anyone that wants to switch a ocean view cabin in my location for one more aft. I would be eternally grateful.
We are leaving at 2:00 pm today for the Port, will spend a night at a hotel near port so the traveling will not be too much all in one day for DH,but I will check the board several times to see if I recieved any replies, if it is after 2:00 pm you can reach me by my cell phone at 727 459 0135 (fl. number, please only serious people call)
I thank each and every one of you for taking the time to read this post and hope someone out there may be able to help me. God Bless, and all be safe on your cruise.

Smooth Sailing, Lacey

did you try a note from his physician to get the handicap room? Might be too late now (to get the note or make the arrangements) & I don't know if the ship is booked, but hey might be able to upgrade someone out of a handicap room to give it to you.

CGC,

Believe me I have done everything humanly possible. including calling the cruise line every day for thr past 6 weeks, they said they are totally booked ,ot one cabin available.I can give them a Dr's note and 200 pages of medical reports, doesn't do much good if they arent willing to change my room or have none to change me too. ;o( But thabks for your suggestions anyway. maybe an Angel will be sent to us today!!

Wasnt your TA(or did you use RCCL)able to book a better cabin at the time or did you do a guarantee(reason,I ask is I am surprised you didnt get a handicapped cabin )...

Good luck!!

Can your husband use a motorized scooter? I have seen them in use on ships before & it could make it easier for you. You might be able to rent one in the port area today or maybe on Orlando on the way to the port.

On our last cruise there were three people with motorized scooters. they were everywhere. If you do shore excursions ask for handicapped accessible buses or vans. Make sure the maitre'd sets you up for handicapped accessible seating.

Did you try posting on the handicapped site? They may be able to help you. I doubt that the handicapped staterooms are being used by anyone that is not handicapped. Those staterooms, if still available for public, are not released until three weeks prior to a cruise. If you had needed one six weeks ago, and one was available, you would have received it.

As for your stateroom...IMHO, you are located near an elevator now. If you went aft, there are no elevators. The best postion would be the mid area of the ship. There are some oceanview on deck 3 in the middle...perhaps you could get a switch to one of them. My concern is not about your walk, but that the Oceanview stateroom is not going to be big enough for someone in a wheelchair, especially with 3 people sharing. Why not get to the ship early and ask about upgrading or being upgraded (because of your situation) to a larger stateroom?

That's a very good point, but I am not sure how accurate! Look here:

Here is the link to the Disabled Cruisers board:

LaceyLady - My advice would be to just see if there are any cancellations in a larger stateroom. Bound to be some come up at the last minute. Try calling RCCL tonight and if no luck, then be at the pier first thing between 10:30 and 11:00. Good luck!

On our Star Princess cruise last October we talked to an elderly lady who's husband had a motorized scooter. She told me she rented it from some location in LA and they delivered it to the ship for them and would pick it up at the end of the cruise. I can see how much easier it made it for this man to get around, plus it was a little smaller than a regular wheelchair, so it would seem to make it nicer for dining rooms and getting into cabins.

You might call the cruise line and ask them if they know of who rents these in your port area.

I was looking online and here is a link for motorized wheelchairs. They are located in Florida. They do have delivery service.

If you are leaving out of Miami you can ask what the charge is. I hope this helps.

I am having trouble with the link..just type it in.

I'm simply a cruise critic fan that reads these boards every day in anticipation of our annual cruises in the Spring. (Just got off the Mariner 4/4 sailing and scheduled on the Serenade for 4/2/05!!) This thread is an excellent example of why I'm in love with these boards! People helping people...this is great! What a wonderful way to share information...if it is too late to help the original poster, maybe this will help someone else in the future! Pats on the back, CC Posters!! Keep it up!!

Very true.............people helping people on this board.............

Its just too bad the OP didnt post earlier than the day before or on the roll call for her cruise..........Most people from that cruise were probably already on the way to the area yesterday morning..No one around to read it...

Well,if anything, like you said,if it helps someone else in the future,it was all not in vain..

I truly hope that her request was attended to. However, I know that there is a large group (150+) on this voyage that most (and I mean most) are Confined to W/C's. Perhaps, that's the reason all the accessible cabins were taken.

Good Luck!

I booked a handicapped cabin without realizing it, hey it was in a good location in the middle of the ship, few days later, looking at a detailed cabin deck plans found out it was a handicapped cabin. I called RCI and told them I was willing to trade the cabin, the CS rep said they release all handicapped cabins that are available within a certain amount of days before sailing, so they said it's ok, enjoy your cabin, I asked if they would like to take my name and number down just in case, they said no. I did the same routine when checking in at port to trade for another cabin, they were not interested or had no process to track it? Oh well, I tried and in the back of my mind still thinking someone could have used it.

this is way to late. There are no aft Oceanview cabins on Deck Three. They end at the restaurant. However, had I seen this I would have told her that she could have gone through the Ice skating rink to get to the restaurant. You open the crew only door and go through. No need to go up a flight over then down again

I don't think the original poster wanted an aft on Deck 3 anyway...just an oceanview stateroom more toward the aft on either deck.

Your solution of going through the Studio B is a great idea unless they are in one of the upper dining rooms. They would still have a long walk where they are. However, I don't think it really matters where in the ship they are stationed as there are so many places to get to while cruising. Unless they are only planning to go from stateroom to dining room the entire cruise, they are going to do some walking.

I do hope that the poster was able to secure a larger stateroom however.
