Older Ships/Toddlers

Recommended Posts

We were considering the June 2010 trip on Enchantment out of Norfolk and were wondering if there are any downsides to an older ship. We went on Mariner last summer and LOVED it. Also, are there activities onboard for toddlers? We'll have an 18 month old then.

There won't be the "bells and whistles" of the larger ships, and the rooms are much smaller....

For an 18 mo. old, there are not "structured" activities for them. It will be totally up to you to entertain! I don't know if there is an water area on Enchantment for diapered kids--some ships have it, some don't.

some of the older ships could possibly be showing their age a little bit and its likely that the cabins are a bit smaller....but then again, because of the size of the ships you will avoid the huge crowds that some of the newer ships deal with

Enchantment does have a small area of the Splash Zone that is designed for non-potty trained children.

Also, there are the Royal Babies and Tots activities, typically 2-3 per day, which are playtimes for you and your children.

They also have a toy lending program.

And there is in-cabin babysitting available for your toddler.

Last October we were on a 13 night Italy/Croatia cruise and the only child I remember seeing was a boy, probably 3/4 years old, with his parents and grandparents. He was the most darling child and probably was having more fun than any other person on the ship. The ship was Legend, one of the oldest in the RCI fleet.

I'd not worry about the kids activities or toys or pool or anything else. If you want to have fun with your child, you will.
