Las Terrenas & Botanical Gardens or Cayo Levantado?

We are having beach days in Virgin Gorda, Great Stirrup, and St. Thomas so a beach isn't a necessity for DR. We would love to shop for local crafts at some point. Which is the better choice? There doesn't seem like there is a whole lot to do in Las Terrenas however being at the Beach all day doesn't sound like a great option either. We are from Florida so the beach isn't all that much of a novelty for us. Any informed opinions will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
