Darrell6t Posted April 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2009 During the Captain's talk on the Beijing to Hong Kong cruise, he said they will be in a convoy for that passage. On a related note, it appears they may have missed their stop in Bangkok due to the unrest there.
Rickey 88 Posted April 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2009 For the repositioning trips to/from Europe/Asia, anyone have any information on the trips since the pirate issues w/Americans? At this point, it's too early to tell. The Nautica is already en route to the Med. and I understand is planning on traveling in convoy in the Gulf of Aden. Remember, it was the Nautica that out ran pirates on their transit to Asia last fall. The next transit will be starting Nov. 10th in Istanbul and obviously it is too soon to say what precautions may be taken. We sailed the Istanbul to Singapore transit back in 2006 and even then, security measures were obvious. High pitched speakers on deck 5 and agents were about, although they were attempting to look like passengers!
KathyPet Posted April 15, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2009 There is no way that I would get on a cruise ship that sailed in this area right now. It is just too risky. Wouldn't those pirates just love to get a hold of a cruise ship filled with well off passengers.

What Rickey88 stated was in effect at that time. There was an obvious presence of agents on board. We are booked on Nautica's Istanbul to Singapore this coming November. We feel secure knowing that the cruise line would not put passengers, crew or the ship in harm's way and are taking all the necessary security precautions. Friscorays Posted April 16, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 16, 2009 Cruise Critic piece on the issue: http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=3173 Quote from it concerning Oceania's plans: Oceania Cruises' Nautica will also stick to its scheduled itinerary this fall. Spokesman Tim Rubacky tells us, "Extra security measures will be employed but it would not be prudent to disclose them prior to [the ship's] transit."
