Just Back from Grand Cayman!

We just returned home (April 18) from a wonderful 11 night cruise on the Celebrity Constellation. Grand Cayman was our first port of call. We made it, but not without same nail-biting moments.

We have missed Grand Cayman on our two previous cruises that had the island on the itinerary. So our private joke had become that Grand Cayman doesn't really exist! :p The night before we arrived we were informed the local tour operator had cancelled our snorkel trip due to rough seas. Here we go again!! The next morning our cruise director informed us that indeed, the local authorities had closed the port area in Georgetown to all ships due to very choppy waters. However, three ships (of the six scheduled) would be allowed to tender passengers in at Spotts Bay. Well hooray for us, ours was one of the lucky three. Felt bad for those on the ships that could not get in, especially when they see us going ashore.

Since we now had no plans for the day, we took a cab into downtown ($5 per person). We walked around the shops for a bit, then decided to head over to Seven Mile Beach. We took a local bus (only $2 per person) which took about ten minutes to get us to the beach. When we arrived, sure enough, the water was very, very choppy and the rip currents were strong. So we only stayed in the water a short time, and didn't go out very far. Still, its quite beautiful there.

We then took the bus back to town. Had lunch at Breezes which was excellent! The fish was very fresh and perfectly cooked. Walked around awhile longer then cabbed it back to the ship.

All in all a lovely day. Perfect weather. And we can finally say we've made it to Grand Cayman!
