newbieMom Posted April 26, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2009 OK, so my son is 13 and he's playing "HOT HOT HOT" with some other kids for his talent show at school. He plays electric bass and he's pretty darn good:) My question, how likely is it that he might be able to play this song once with the band on deck? What a cool memory that would be! I wouldn't have the first clue who to ask about it.....any input would be VERY welcome!!
Trplnckl Posted April 26, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2009 Not that I would have a real clue, but it seems to me that if you talk to the band it would be up to them. I wouldn't think the cruise line would encourage it for obvious reasons. Still, it wouldn't hurt to ask the band leader and the bass player. KarenMF Posted April 26, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2009 On my last Liberty cruise (April 2008) a performer had left his guitar while he took a break. We walked by at one point and a kid was playing it, extremely well, I might add. This was by the Casino and one of the bars there. I have no idea if he had permission, or if he got in trouble, but he had a pretty big crowd watching him!
Ken076 Posted April 26, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2009 Ask your Cruise Director. ken
CCL_Crewmember Posted April 26, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2009 I'd say its not especially likely, but thats depending on your ship. Some shorter cruises have the guest talent show, but that really is for adult guests.
Curt Jerome Wild Posted April 26, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2009 It is totally and completely up to that Bass Player personally. It's his bass, and his option. Don't expect that you are just going to walk up, talk to them for the first time, and expect them to let a 13 year old kid use his bass. (It's that person's expensive personal instrument, and he has no way to know that your kid is going to be good, responsible, knows what he is doing and won't break something on it). So, if you want, plan a bit beforehand, have a pic in your wallet of him playing onstage somewhere (to show he's legitimate and serious), and talk to them and hang out and make friends a little each day. Show that you are respectful of the and band the bass player. Then, in a few days, it's much more likely. Respect and an effort to become friends with them, will result in more openness to the idea. It can be asking a lot of some musicians (others are more easy going about it), so just be ready and aware of that. Hope that helps.
