so sorry to hear that team splendour are not going to be invading my little restaurant tomorrow, but i´m sure you will all make the best of it.....please remember, you´re still on a cruise, it´s still your vacation so have a great time.....try to keep randy under control as he doesn´t have to wake up early for a few days.

 

in my experience, carnival always put the welfare of their guests first and foremost, so this decision is understandable.

Too bad the Mexican ports were cancelled over such a small "scare". The media is really blowing things out of proportion. Over 140,000 people die each year in the U.S. from the regular flu, and less than 100 have died from this "swine flu" worldwide, two in Los Angeles, and the world is up in arms?

 

Have fun in San Francisco. According to weather.com the high for the rest of the week is 59 degrees, hope you packed some pants and a jacket! That retractable roof over the lido pool will actually come in handy this week.

 

I think I may make the two-hour drive down to SF just to get a good shot of the Splendor docked up here for probably the only time, what day / days will you be in SF? Or have they not shared the full details at this point?

It has been confirmed that the deaths in CA are not from the Swine Flu.

I swear I would never ever travel that route from LAX to Vancouver ever again, because the water is really rough. And we were so sick...we are probably the only one that lost weight while cruising...so with that in mind...for those passengers that doesn't want to go can they be drop off in Long Beach instead? No refunded expected of course.

 

Please don't laugh at my question, I really want to understand how it works.

Got to be almost 2000 miles round trip. If they can cover 500 miles per day there might be time for a peek at the Golden Gate Bridge.

What a mess, we arrived around 11:30am to find a mess of people everywhere. Turns out the ship arrived around 7am so by the time we got there, 11:30am people were still getting off the ship. Long Beach is still the worst Cruise Terminal on the planet. They now have a VIP room right next to the Parking lot but no bathroom in it. By the time we checked in, they were starting to board VIP and when we got to the front of the Dome, it was pretty much a free for all, no VIP line, not organized at all and the staff was just trying to deal with everyone. They would tell me, no sir sorry there is not VIP line now just move along.

Strange - wife and I just returned on the 26th from the same cruise just a week earlier. We found it quite well organized at the terminal. What may have confused you is all check-in is now outside, so all passengers wait outside once they check-in. May look disorganized when you have thousands of people just sitting/standing around waiting.

 

Not sure why the complaint about the VIP lounge and bathrooms, the bathrooms are right across from the lounge - maybe not directly in the lounge, but come on, really necessary? Not sure why you had no VIP line, our cruise had VIP's board before everyone else - boarded around 12:15.

I am sure its going to be even worse getting off the ship when we get back like the last time, more people onboard this ship and Customs is very slow and a royal pain in the you know what here in Long Beach. A Carnival rep told me that the Splendor added an extra 1000 passengers to the mix.

Once our floor was called, we were off the ship and out of the terminal in 15-20 minutes (9:20). Found it to be no hassle at all. We were at the airport by 10:00 (had a 12:15 flight, so plenty of time).

We met some of our Cruise Critic Members while standing in line, even Pat a Cruise Critic Member which was in a Wheel Chair had to wait with everyone else, Carnival was more concerned with the Wedding Party and pretty much kicked the Wheel Chair people to th curb. She had a nice Carnival Rep wheel her onboard.

Seems strange to me that the cruise only a week later would be different. All special assistance folks were accommodated and moved to front of the lines, boarded even before the wedding parties/VIP folks. The Carnival rep made special attention to come out to the passengers and locate those in wheel chairs.

Our inside Cabin is a Cat. 4e up on Empress 7370, we are close to the elevators kinda midships. But currently our Midship elevators are inop due to the crew is using them to move luggage up and down so we are using the rear elevators to move about the ship.

 

Our Cabin is TINY !!!! Its a queen size bed and thats about it

We were 8E, we didn't notice that the cabin to be any different in size than any other cruise we've been on.

 

This is it for now, I will post later tonight about our Dinner, Show, Casino and what ever else.

Enjoy your cruise - we had a blast on ours. Glad that we made it the week earlier, would have been disappointed to have Mexican ports cancelled.

Why do you lie? There are two effective treatments with the best being Tamiflu. Also Cipro is for bacteria's not viruses.
