ProdigalCruiser Posted April 27, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2009 Hi all -- First time posting here and also first time cruising in over a decade. I'm taking the Mariner on the May 24 journey to Mexico (or wherever RC sends the ship if the flu thing keeps heating up) and I was wondering about security at the embarkation point in San Pedro. Like I said, I haven't cruised in a while and wanted to know if it's like going to the airport these days -- taking off shoes, liquids in plastic bags, metal detectors, possible pat-downs, etc. Would appreciate any information so I know how to prep for the day. Thanks all!
Niwel Posted April 27, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2009 I took the Monarch in October out of San Pedro. After you check in and get your sea pass you go down a long hall to the security line. No pat downs, no liquid restrictions ... and we were even able to leave our shoes on. :)
CruisinEars Posted April 27, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2009 Actually, security is first just inside the doors to the terminal. Super easy. Just remove metal from pockets and put bags on the conveyer. No need to do the liquid thing or shoes off. It goes very fast. After security, you will be directed to the correct line for check in. It is done by which deck you are on. Have fun!

I think where you hit security depends on what berth you are in. :) The Monarch always left from berth 93. The other berth is
cb at sea Posted April 27, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2009 Security for a cruise ship is NOTHING like for airports!!!! (Thank God!) There's no reason to restrict what you can "carry on" since eventually, you'll have in your possession everything you packed and checked....unlike carry ons on a plane. ProdigalCruiser Posted April 27, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted April 27, 2009 That's a relief. I fly all the time and while I'm basically used to it by now, I was already beginning to dread having to brave the whole TSA thing in San Pedro. Nice to know it won't be that bad.
