Looking for Beach time/All inclusive day pass while at port

Wondering if there is any place/resort you can recommend that does day passes (all inclusive drinks/food, access to pool/beach) that are not a part of the cruise ship's excursions. Just want to lay out on the beach and drink some good rum, any recommendations?

We did Bamboo Beach Club. It was a ship excursion but well worth the price. All-inclusive food, drinks and entertainment. The entertainment is what made it so special - it wasn't just another beach to hang out at, it was a whole Jamaican experience. Even our kids loved it!! By the way, my mojitos were very good - thought rum was delicious, but don't really know too much about different types of rum - my husband stuck to beer and of course the kids had cold lemonade to sip.

I will be going to Sunset Grande in Ocho Rios in 2 weeks or so. It is $60 for the day pass and I plan to take full advantage of my price and have breakfast there hang out and have lunch. They also just recently opened a casino/slot room:D.

Could you tell me how you got in touch with this place to get a day pass? Thanks

Hi,

In January we will be going to Ocho Rios and I was wondering how much it costs to get to the Sunset Grande from the pier? We've been looking into the ships excursions and they seem expensive. We'd like to try this on our own. Sunset Grande looks beautiful and pretty close to the pier.

If you don't mind could you post when you get back about your time there?

Thank you

Liz

We were at Sunset Jamaica Grande on our Cruise 2 weeks ago and it was beautiful! Not crowded, met alot of really nice people from England and Canada. The drinks flowed nicely at the "Splash Pool Bar" We walked there from the pier and it was about a 15 minute walk. Going home we took a taxi and it was around $10. Don't let them jack up the prices!

You get the day pass when you arrive. They send you to a little room where they will put a wrist band on you, get your names, and you pay them $50 per adult and $30 per child.

Do they offer different tipes of drinks or just rum and beer? How about activities for the kids? Thanks!

You can order whatever you want! My favorite bartender there was a nice man named Sandy (at the pool bar). He would make me something different and unique every time! Ask for a "Creeper" they were amazing. But beware, they'll creep up on you!

For the kids, there's the light house slide that is loads of fun. They have a beach area where you can use unmotorized water sports. I don't think they'll have one bored minute!

Pictures!:

The splash pool bar where we were most of the time.

The water slide, which was loads of fun and I never had to stand in a line!

Ask for a "Bob Marley" drink too, they look cool!

Thank you so much. I have sent them an e-mail but haven't heard back.

It looks absolutely amazing! How is the beach? What is the hospitality room? Is it a private room where you can change and shower? One last question.. Is the taxi $10 pp and can they fit 6 people? Or is it a flat fee of $10?

I'm so excited. We've done the Dunn's Falls and wanted to do an AI this time. So all we do is go to the front desk and tell them we're on a cruise ship and the fee is $50 instead of $60 which is what I had seen? $50 pp is a great deal hope the price remains the same for January:)

Thanks for all your info and beautiful pics! Can't wait to try out the slide!

I'm sorry I can't give you a definate answer on the taxi price. The bus was big enough to fit the 6 people, but I'm not sure if it was like $5 per person or if it was a flat $10 for the both of us for the distance. To be honest I had a bit too much to drink and my husband took care of all this. :o

When you go the front desk, they will tell you to go into a hallway into a small room where you pay. I remember them having a sign up saying it was $50 so I'm not sure why people are saying $60.

As for the hospitality room, we never went to it. But they said it was a place to clean up before you head back. So I'm guessing there is a shower and changing room.

I hope you enjoy your up coming trip!

Are there any AI resorts in Ocho Rios where we can rent jetskis?

You can for sure do it at the Riu and at the Sandals Dunn's River. The beaches in Jamaica are public property so at some resorts there are lots of vendors wandering around. At these two resorts (and possibly more) there are guys that cruise back and forth just off the beach offering rides/rentals and probably some ganja too. Those looking for a quiet day on the beach HATE the jet ski guys because of the noise from the machines and the constant yelling and hawking of their services at beachgoers. If you use them just be aware that they are not affiliated with the resort and things like insurance may be problematical. Like all of the vendors the prices are negotiable so don't be afraid to haggle. And I believe it's a cash-only business so be prepared. I think most AI resorts don't rent them because the noise complaint problems probably would far outweigh whatever money they'd make.

Try Reggae Beach. Apparently Bamboo Beach Club just moved there and we were pleasantly surprised to learn this when we visited there last week. It is all inclusive of food, drinks and entertainment - professional entertainment with singing and dancing shows - we especially enjoyed the drummers. Also, well worth the money!

We're trying to decide between sunset beach and bamboo beach club. Heard nice things about both places. We're just looking for a nice place to relax on the beach, listen to reggae music, and drink red stripe beer. Anyone been to both sunset beach and bamboo beach club that can give give me the pros and cons of both locations????
