malony33 Posted December 7, 2004 #26 Share Posted December 7, 2004 Okay, let's cut the hilarity down a bit. No matter how it happened, someone died. A little respect, please?
GoinCruisin Posted December 7, 2004 #27 Share Posted December 7, 2004 Hilarity? I really have not seen much of that... but keep in mind that this is a message board and people have different ways of handling things... I don't think anyone has been disrespectful AT ALL in this thread... I don't think anything has been directed at the person that this unfortunate act happened too...
Littlegoo75 Posted December 7, 2004 #28 Share Posted December 7, 2004 It may seem scary to some, but you never know what is going to happen to you, and where. The only way to stay safe these days is to lock yourself in a room and never come out, or live in a bubble. I bet Lacy Peterson never thought she would be murdered by her own husband, either. You can be kidnapped walking down the street, you can be an innocent bystander and get shot in the middle of a shoot-out. You just never know. When it is your time, it is your time. The best thing to do is live it up with the time that you have, and not let the bad and scary things in life prevent you from having fun. Just be aware of your surroundings, and try not to put yourself in situations that can be hazardous. It's true. There have been millions of people taking cruises, and just a handful of incidents, the chance of something horrible/life-threatening happening to you on a cruise would be like winning the lottery. ANy lottery winners on here?
halos Posted December 7, 2004 #29 Share Posted December 7, 2004 From my perspective, I look at it like this....would I be more relaxed when my daughter was on a cruise ship...or just driving in her car, going to work or to run errands....... I'm always more nervous when my daughters are driving. NOTHING is more dangerous in my eyes...BUT, you can't stop driving, can you??? (certainly not where I live...public transportation is almost non-existent). Sometimes you just have to have faith....either that, or climb in a hole and don't come out. L2J Posted December 7, 2004 #30 Share Posted December 7, 2004 If you don't get sucked up by the propellers then you will either drown which is painful or get eatin buy a shark or some kind of other animal. Or you might die of thrist or starve to death. Plus the water is freezing. And you will be so lonely. Think about it. That is my worse fear on a cruise is falling overboard. Painful? You know this from first hand experience? You'd drown from exhaustion before dehydration or thirst. No it's not freezing but one could succumb to hypothermia after a few hours depending on the individual.

sgriff17 Posted December 7, 2004 #35 Share Posted December 7, 2004 I know this is really OT, but it got me thinking...does Carnival or any cruise ships for that matter, have any kind of defenses? I mean, what happens if Pirates (dont laugh) or te^^orists would want to harm the ship? I mean, it's really a sitting duck in the middle of the ocean. There's a lot of money in the Casino, etc, etc.. How would they protect themselves or us?? I know this topic is probably really taboo, but I would really like to know... I mean, airlines are doing stuff to protect themselves, what about ships?

Boston6 Posted December 7, 2004 #43 Share Posted December 7, 2004 Painful? You know this from first hand experience? You don't need first hand experience to know something. I'm a male who knows that childbirth is a painful experience. I don't have first hand knowledge, and never will, but I know it to be true. Here's a drowning victim's story about drowning. Fortunately, the person survived. DO NOT READ FURTHER IF THIS TYPE OF STUFF UPSETS YOU! "...When the cramp hit me, I sank to the bottom of the lake 12 feet down, in a doubled-up position. Compounding the wracking pain in my trunk was a mounting choking sensation. (Try holding your mouth and nose after taking a deep breath. Hold your breath until it becomes unbearable; then try holding it a few seconds past the unbearable point. It's a horrible sensation and would give you a dim idea of just one aspect of how it feels to drown.) The pressure of the water caused a stabbing pain in my eyes and ears... try to keep your head when water begins to seep into your already tortured lungs and your body is a mass of pain and you know you are dying... I remember that I screamed down there against a solid wall of water—I remember that I threshed and bobbed, but only succeeded in burrowing my head into the slime of the lake floor...."
