Freeport Review- April 26

We docked in Freeport on Sunday, April 26. The Carnival Fascination was docked from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday is not a good day to dock in Freeport as many places were closed.

The port is industrial, a working port, so it was interesting to see the tankers and cargo ships.

There were high winds and high seas, so many Grand Bahama excursions were canceled. We decided to take a van cab ($4 pp) to the Our Lucaya Westin/Sheraton complex which is about 10 miles away and across from Our Lucaya Marketplace.

The Westin/Sheraton is an attractive resort with a big beach and several pools. On a non-windy day it would be a fine place to spend the day. However, the winds were 20-30 mph, so we just walked around.

Then we went across the street to the Marketplace which has about 100 shops and stalls- many upscale shops and lots of local vendors. It is a colorful place. Many of the shops were closed on Sunday.

The people of Grand Bahama still speak of the hurricanes of 2004. They need our cruise ship business.
