cruisinmait Posted December 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2004 I was just wondering if the $3.95 fee for JR is a one time thing or an everytime you go kinda thing?
TexasTwoSteps Posted December 9, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2004 Every time, every passenger, every visit. Food is good, but not that special to require me to pass on the Windjammer and the free stuff plus all the variety there. I think you might enjoy it once for the fun staff dancing a bit. hstrybuf Posted December 9, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2004 We each received a coupon in our Crown & Anchor booklet for one free visit on the Navigator. That's all we thought it was worth anyway. The waiters/waitresses dancing was cute, the burgers just okay. They did charge extra for all drinks. If you aren't a C&A member, you'll pay the charge. I don't know if they're still doing this or not as far as C&A members.
vickie1ok Posted December 9, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 9, 2004 I'm curious. I've never been to a JR but why would anyone go to a burger joint on a cruise, much less pay extra for it? I guess they might be better burgers than at the Windjammers, but....
hstrybuf Posted December 9, 2004 #5 Share Posted December 9, 2004 I think it's just something else to do. JR's is set up like a 50's diner. Interesting for a quick lunch, but that's about it. I didn't find the burgers to be anything special. Heck, my DH makes them better! :D
south1246 Posted December 9, 2004 #6 Share Posted December 9, 2004 I have never paid to go into Johnny Rockets. I have paid for the milkshakes etc but never just to eat there.
sweet angel Posted December 9, 2004 #7 Share Posted December 9, 2004 There's a few Johnny Rockets at the malls near me. I didn't find them to be anything special. I wouldn't pay extra to eat there when there's other food that's included. The thing I disliked the most was that ALL their shakes are made with vanilla ice cream. That includes the CHOCOLATE shake. Explain to me how you make a chocolate shake with vanilla ice cream?
vickie1ok Posted December 9, 2004 #8 Share Posted December 9, 2004 Angel, I suspect they use rich chocolate syrup with the vanilla ice cream. That sounds yummy and I don't like shakes! However, my mother does so maybe it's a good thing they dont have a JR on the Grandeur since she is diabetic now.
beachchick Posted December 9, 2004 #9 Share Posted December 9, 2004 south1246: If you go to JR on an RCI ship now, you will pay $3.95 service fee per person (charged every time you go) plus you will pay for milkshakes and sodas. beachchick
thompson4131 Posted December 9, 2004 #10 Share Posted December 9, 2004 Does anyone know if the $3.95 fee also applies to the Seaview Cafe found on the Radience Class ships?
desertheat Posted December 9, 2004 #11 Share Posted December 9, 2004 Seaview Cafe ... food is free but there is a charge for drinks. The food is much better than at Johnny Rockets.
cruisinmait Posted December 9, 2004 Author #12 Share Posted December 9, 2004 Thanks everyone for your input. We have one here in Indy. mkk Posted December 9, 2004 #13 Share Posted December 9, 2004 We were just on Mariner a few weeks ago and my DH is the #1 "I won't pay a cover charge when I can eat for free guy"... Anyway..he actually was planning on going to JR's (despite the charge) when we were pleasantly surprised by the C&A coupon... JR's was awesome..burgers just mediocre but HUGE..it's the dancing and the endless fries and onion rings that are to die for! What a fun afternoon..!!! Worth doing once..but OMG..we were so full we waddled down to our room and passed out! Can you get drunk on onion rings?
gerif Posted December 9, 2004 #14 Share Posted December 9, 2004 The thing I disliked the most was that ALL their shakes are made with vanilla ice cream. That includes the CHOCOLATE shake. Explain to me how you make a chocolate shake with vanilla ice cream? My chocoholic DH had a HUGE issue with that one on Voyager. I tasted his malted and thought it was good (I like vanilla), but had only a faint taste of chocolate. The burger were merely OK as were the onion rings - the fries tasted distinctly of having been frozen, defrosted and refrozen - totally "off" taste. Even though we will get C&A coupons for our trip in May, we will not be using them - will probably give them to DS and GS to use.
