Who is Bill W?

Perhaps this might seem like a "stupid" question... what is a "Friends of Bill W" meeting?

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. He was one of the co-founders of the group. Every cruise I have taken has these meetings onboard, usually daily if not more than that.

Thanks for the quick response... I just got back from my Cruise and I would have been really pissed if it was a "family" meeting. There were no FOD meetings, but I guess I should have asked... ;o)

Actually, the Friends of Bill W. meetings are for members of ANY 12-step program. For example, Overeaters Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, etc., in addition to AA -- although most of those who attend are members of Alcoholics Anonymous. As you can imagine, a cruise has the potential to be a great temptation for an alcoholic and for an overeater it could be very difficult without the support those meetings lend.

Friends - speaking as a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous, I would offer that onboard meetings tend to focus on gratitude more more than fear of the next drink. We enjoy spending an hour with new and old friends as a means of celebrating the miracles of recovery which are SO self-evident on a luxurious cruise ship!
