lcccbeloeil Posted May 18, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 18, 2009 We're thinking of buying a Mobal phone for our upcoming cruise. (Unfortunately, the $99 free call credit is now $40 and there's no free call credit offered on the Deluxe model.) Has anyone from Canada ordered a Mobal phone? Which phone did you buy and what were the import duties and taxes you paid when FedEx delivered? Thanks!
Fblack Posted May 18, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 18, 2009 Mobal is way too expensive..at least for people with U.S. cell phones. I am not sure how it applied to Canada. Just compare their prices. An ATT phone will work in Europe. Verizon has a Global Traveler program where they lend you a phone at no charge. I have found that ATT charges less than Mobal, and so does Verizon if you have a Verizon world phone. So why buy a Mobal SIM and phone if it will cost more than your current phone. Below are the links to rates. Just compare a few prices on calls back to the U.S. Try Italy, Turkey, Eqypt and Croatia. http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Glo...vel/index.html Verizon rates http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/in...al-roaming.jsp ATT Rates http://www.mobal.com/gsm/sim.asp Mobal
lcccbeloeil Posted May 18, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted May 18, 2009 Thanks, Fblack. Unfortunately, we don't have ATT or Verizon here in Canada. My husband's phone is with Bell so I'll call them tomorrow to see if they can offer us service in Europe (it's a holiday here in Canada today so the service dept. is closed). lcccbeloeil Posted May 19, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted May 19, 2009 Bumping... I hope this is okay. I really would like to know approximately what it will cost me in FedEx brokerage fees (UPS charges $52!) and customs duties before I order. Mobal said they had no idea.
