paulanm Posted December 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2004 We just returned from the GCT Christmas on the Rhine cruise. It was terrific! After the jet lag subsides, we will post more. Any questions---we'll try to answer.

Carhut Posted December 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 11, 2004 Larry, you didn't ask me, but I went on a GCT Great Rivers of Europe this past summer and wrote a review about it. My friends and I thought it was just great. In fact we've already booked another one for next summer, actually Aug/Sept. We are doing "Eastern Europe to the Black Sea" next. By the way, I'm from Norwalk, too, but mine is in Ohio. Carole
paulanm Posted December 11, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted December 11, 2004 Larry, we loved GCT. It was our first trip with them and they satisfied us in every way. The ship, food, shore excursions, program directors, everything was top notch! We will certainly book with them again.
mappa2 Posted December 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted December 11, 2004 carole - appreciate your reply! i feel better knowing that gct is a good choice. some years ago in our local newspaper, i read that norwalk, ohio patterned their town after norwalk, ct. we have a "village green" (from colonial days") and i believe i read that you had something similar. is this correct or am i having old age confusion? larry
mappa2 Posted December 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2004 would like to know if you guys took the gct travel insurance plan. also, if it pays to pay up front by check to get the discount. gct seems to be pushing this but i have some reservations. let me know! larry
paulanm Posted December 13, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted December 13, 2004 We did take the GCT insurance plan. We just signed up for the cruise 6 weeks in advance so full payment was required when we booked. I can't help you with full payment several months out. Carhut Posted December 13, 2004 #8 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Larry, my Norwalk doesn't have much village green, except for a small patch of lawn in front of the court house. Our area has many towns named after towns in the east. We have Plymouth, New Haven, Greenwich and others. We are called the Firelands area. History says these people that came here from the East were burned out of their area and moved here to escape persecution. Questions about insurance. I'd not go anywhere without insurance, especially medical and evacuation. Medicare doesn't pay out of our country. I've heard never buy from the company you book your trip with in case of company ceasing operations. I always book with another company. You can find several on "Insure My Trip.com". Thank goodness never needed it. Besides GCT doesn't carry very good coverage for medical, only $25,000. That wouldn't go very far if something major happened. I didn't pay early payment last trip, but did for the next one. That's a toss up which is the way to go. I have insurance so don't think I'd lose my money if something happens and I can't go. I've read on Frommer's that some people had trouble collecting from various insurance companies and many others wrote and said they had no trouble. So who knows? mappa2 Posted December 14, 2004 #9 Share Posted December 14, 2004 carhut - the english landed on what is now our beach in 1779 and pretty much burned down the city of norwalk, ct. i guess the people decided to move to ohio where the english couldn't get to them by boat. thanks all, for the info on insurance etc. larry
