Knossos from Iraklion

Has anyone gone to Knossos lately from Iraklion? We only have about 5 hours in port. How would you suggest we get there?

 

The cruise excursion is $80 per person. Seems expensive.

 

Is it true that the taxi cabs in the port won't just simply drive you to Knossos but insist on doing a tour?

 

We were also considering taking the #2 bus as described in other posts. Is it still running? Does anyone know how frequently the return buses stop at Knossos? Wouldn't want to miss the ship.

We are sailing on NOS in a couple weeks and have booked the ship's tour to Knossos. I'll let you know how it was if your trip is after ours. If not, have fun anyway.
