Mercury Review 11/26-12/6-2004

We flew into San Diego early Thanksgiving morning. We spent the night right across the street from the pier at the Holiday Inn, GREAT place with a wonderful view of the pier! Got a room for $79+ through Priceline!

Awakened at 6AM and opened the curtains of the room only to see the Mercury slowly making her way into the harbor. We stood on the balcony of our room & watched her as she slowly made her way home. What a sight! We had a bird’s eye view from our room.

After we had breakfast, we strolled over to the terminal and visited with the gate guards. Seems they will not open the gates for pax before 11:30AM. We returned to our room to make sure everything was in order & proceeded to check out and wait for the hotel van to take us to the pier. At precisely 11:30, we drove over to the other side of the street. We were checked by security inside the van & then waved on through. When we pulled over to the curb, the instant we opened the door, a porter was there to handle the luggage. We then proceeded to the entrance & once they saw our suite tickets were ushered directly to an empty counter to be checked in. The check-in took about 5 minutes and we were off to board. Total time from the hotel to actually being on board was less than 20 minutes!

We were greeted with the white-gloved champagne and took off to deposit our carry-ons. Our suite (Sky Suite 1215) was actually ready so we were able to take a look-see and then be off to explore the rest of the ship. Our cabin steward, Robbie and our butler, Stanley, both made appearances to introduce themselves & discuss our needs & desires. They were both truly wonderful.

To be continued...............

Holiday Inn - On the Bay; (619) 232-3861; 1355 North Harbor Drive; San Diego, CA 92106. This is literally across the street from the Cruise Terminal. Ask for a bayside room and you'll see the sunset the night(s) before you sail, and you'll be able to see your ship come in the day you sail.

Mercury should be in port in San Diego on December 17th and you should be able to see the Holiday Inn - On the Bay by checking the Mercury BridgeCam.

For more information about San Diego, check out the Infinity 10/23/2005 Roll Call.
