Sorry, can't help you there, but Google it and it will give you some idea of what is there. It may just be a dy to get off the ship and have a nice luncheon someplace and a stroll about town.:)

We were there last July while on Navigator of the Seas.

Ship was docked for 7 hours so there wasnt much time.

Not a whole lot of attractions. The biggest was the Palace

of Knossos, restored Minoan ruins. Pretty interesting.

You can get tours of the countryside or go to the beaches.

The main town has alot of upscale shops and I think there

was an archeological museum that was free. Lots of little

eateries in the main square. If you go, try a Greek pastry

called Bougatsa. Phyllo dough filled with a cheese. Real good

with a cup of iced frothy coffee. I love the way they make coffee.

Enjoy the trip.

Knossos (Minoan ruins with some reconstruction) is probably the biggest attraction there: http://www.ancient-greece.org/archaeology/knossos.html

We went by taxi (caught it outside the port area) and returned by local bus (it's about 5 kms from Iraklion).

There have been a few recent threads re this port ... using the "Search This Forum" feature on the Med forum page (at the top, under the page numbers), a search of 'Iraklion' and/or 'Knossoss will bring up those threads.

Can you get a city bus to Knossos? How often do they run? How do you find it? What is the taxi fare to Knossos from the port?

In Crete you will find that the ancient landscape changes at every turn. Huge mountains in the centre of the island are split by deep gorges and fertile valleys stretching down to the coast where you will find rocky inlets, pebble coves and vast expanses of sandy beaches edged by a warm, azure sea.

The climate is one of the mildest and healthiest in the whole of Europe. Summer days awash in brilliant sunlight, swimming in clear calm water and nights redolent of jasmine and honeysuckle. The beautiful island of Crete offers restful and exciting times for all who visit, and when you have been once, we are sure that you will want to come again and again.
