Last year while I was on a cruise, I had a group of guys who played nothing but the "Dont Pass Line" the whole time. My rolling was so lousy,

Well I got back from a cruise and all I can say is I never wanna set foot in that ship's casino again. I did a write up on the RCCL section about it. I will leave it at that in regards to that part.

 

I must say it was a real treat to hop numbers. Made me look like a real show off. HAHAHA! :D

If I recall, I liked the British the best.

I sucked big time and took a bath the first night. CC member Fire331 witnessed it. LOL! But gradually made headway during the rest of the cruise until all hell broke loose. The rest is history.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Yo Eleven: Welcome back. I am glad that you had a good time. Everyone takes a bath in the Casino sooner or later. It is how you come back that is the key. The important thing is that you had a good time. The Casino has a very high edge on hop bets. I used to use some bets as a hedge. I just forget them now. Advantage is with the shooter on a Come Out roll.

I took some advice offered on this board and purchased “Beat the Craps out of the Casinos” by Frank Scoblete. I finally finished it yesterday and it brought up a few questions I wanted to ask you guys.

 

First of all, on the right side, one of the strategies he suggests to avoid an early 7-out, is something called the 5-count method. Is anyone familiar with this strategy, and if so, have you found it to be successful?

 

Secondly, the main strategy that he suggests is a basic Doey-Don’t system, with variations depending on bankroll and style of play (which was a completely new concept for me). Since I understand that the best bets (mathematically) are odds bets on your pass/don’t pass & come/don’t come, it makes sense to have the only money you have at risk working only in the areas that would pay true odds. What are your thoughts on this type of system, and have you found it to be successful (with variations depending on house rules of course)?

That was my thinking too. I’m really not too concerned about getting rated, however it might be nice from time to time to have some perks. I understand this is not the way to do that, but like Yo-11 and a few other players, I'm more concerned with making money than friends.

 

The only other question I had is about pushing the house. Has anyone ever had any luck pushing the house on your odds bets? I can understand that it would sometimes be beneficial, to get a correct payoff, but in the long run will it cause more problems than not?

I only play the craps table on cruises. I have tried that system. IMO it only works if there are some really lucky shooters or dice setters who have long runs. This waiting method allows you to cycle through the one-and-done 7 outters without losing and loading up. Typically, only a few shooters on cruises are dice setters, most everyone else is pick and throw. They are a good bet for the darksiders.

 

So rather than miss some comeout rolls of 7 or 11, I'll just play the pass line on those shooters. I'm there to spend some time and enjoy the evening. That plan seems to work for me, a dice setter.

However, it is nice to know that some casino values your patronage and would offer a room every now and then. I like the high roller system. But I also play the Doey-Don't too.

I have had some luck pushing the house. However, you don't want to push them too much because that is putting money at risk. Some results have been beneficial. Remember, that is on odds and the only way to know if you can do it is to try it. Different managers will give different games.

If you can get to Las Vegas go there. That is where I first played the Doey-Don't. But remember, you can be asked to leave for any reason. Like what happened to the Captain. You will attract people who are curious about it. Few people play that way.

(And I suspect that she had one of the senior positions in the kitchen pecking order). On the other, the servers were slow, didn't really know their items, etc. Same cruise line.

 

We tend to choose our cruises by itinerary and date. Cruise line plavs only a small part of it... after being on Carnival to New England, the constant blaring of the CD "We're going to have FUNNNNNNN" over the PA at 180 db. gives them demerits in my book.

 

But in general, it's all just a "crap shoot"! (pun intended)

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO AndyTheK: Some cruise lines give better service than others. For example, my worst cruise on Carnival was better than the one cruise I had on either NCL or RCCL.

I don't mind the announcements that much. At least they haven't as yet done it while people are playing BINGO like what happened on RCCL. However, announcements overall don't bother me that much. I could always cruise Celebrity where they don't make announcements.

Food might be subjective, but, I have yet to get a good meal on RCCL. Carnival has consistanly good food and they have the most variety of any cruise line I have been on to date. By the way, I have the most success in Casinos on RCCL or on Celebrity. Carnival has been the worst as to casino returns. So it is not the casino that attracts me to Carnival. However, Carnival did let me and a few other people play until 0400 hours on a couple of occasions. No other cruise line I have been on has kept the casino open for as long.

Whew! I think I've read all the posts in this thread. I've really enjoyed hearing how others play. So I thought I'd share the 'method' I've settled on, but I really have no reason why I do it. I just tried a few recommendations and settled on this one...of course, the first time I did it I turned $100 into $500 in 2 hours so that was an incentive to keep doing it. Of course I want to win, but I also like to have some fun. I'm fine breaking even or even loosing a little bit after a few hours at the table as long as I had fun. I love busy tables and watching other people win..as long as I'm not loosing as a result. :) I have been playing for years, but don't get to play often. Since I started cruising I've been able to at least play on the cruises.

 

I usually play $5 tables but will sometimes play a $10 table if I can't find a $5 one. On the comeout roll I play $5 on the pass line and $5 on the field (hedge bet). I also started added a $1 bet on the pass line for the dealers as well. Once the point is established I put another $5 or $6 odds on my pass line bet and place the 6 and 8 for $6 each. I then do a CPR (collect, press, regress) method on the 6 and 8. The first time one hits I collect my winnings. The second time that number hits I press it. The third time it hits I take my bet on that number back down to just 1 unit. Then I restart the CPR method again. I just keep going until the point is made or the 7 is rolled. I know I need to start increasing my odds on the pass line.

 

If buying the 4 or 10 - do you just buy it outright or place it and then buy it once you have won enough to do so?

Tiger...When buying the 4 and/or 10, you have to bet at least $20 to justify paying the $1 vig. Place it for $10 and if and when it hits @ 9:5, use your total payoff of $28 to buy it for $21 ($20 + $1 vig) with your change being $7. Most casinos will let you buy the 4 and/or 10 for up to $35 for the same $1 vig. If the 4 and/or 10's are showing and you really get aggresive...bet $35 + $1 juice. When its hits for a total payoff of $105, press it ALL THE WAY to $100 and the dealer keeps the $5 vig. Good luck...

Hey guys. Great thread. It looks like it has slowed down during the holiday season. I have just read the whole thing and Yo, you are ok in my book. I play on the right side but I would love to see how other half lives and watch you at work.

 

I do not get to play except when we are on a cruise so I don't really have a system. I guess I am going to try the pass line and 2 come line strategy and see how that works this time.

 

You guys are hillarious and I have seen a bunch of you in the Black Jack thread too.

 

Do the books on craps also cover the dark side? I have seen a LOT of cold tables on cruise ships and figure it may work to my advantage to learn how to make some money that way too!
