Upgrade Promotions

Assuming the Epic will be passenger-ready 15 months from now...I have a rookie question:

 

If NCL promises a "free" 3-cabin/category upgrade, but I do not want to take advantage of it, they won't just automatically upgrade me during the upsell process without telling me about it, will they? I booked a specific cabin/category, not a guarantee.

 

 

I figured NCL would call me before changing/upgrading my cabin, but I saw a thread elsewhere that mentioned people showing up for their cruise and receiving some kind of automatic upgrade they didn't want.

 

Thanks in advance for any insight.
