Tipping the dealer

I'm on holiday

Recommended Posts

Black Jack, Poker, Caribbean Stud- these games have dealers. Craps, Roulette, they are just a Table Person, Stick Man, etc. Nothing personal, but if you do not know what you are doing, you are donating!!:D

I am trying to understand your post....

This thread is about tipping. Are you suggesting that a "table person" does not deserve a gratuity for exceptional service?

Furthermore, JFYI, Craps and Roulette employees ARE classified as dealers. Thanks for checking out the section.

I rarely shoot the dice anymore, I like Roulette on the ships. When we are in Nassau I venture to the Blackjack tables. I do not preach a certain way to tip but my theory is I sit down to enjoy the evening and whoever it may be...the dealer, the croupier, even the couple sitting next to me..we all have a good time! Gambling is my entertanment for the evening especially on a ship. I am not big on going to the shows unless I am on a Disney Cruise! So if I win I tip or I buy drinks. I firmly believe as I have said before if you cannot afford to lose do not play. On a 35:1 win at the wheel what is the big deal with 1 chip. I tip according to my win and I am never a sore loser. Especially on cruises ships dealers put up with alot of clueless people so I always have a new batch of friends at the end of my cruise. That is my strategy.

Great post! The only time I will play roulette is if I am over at the craps table and I see that there were like six BLACK numbers in a row. I will sometimes run over and put some money on the RED hoping it hits.

As for Disney cruises. I have no idea how I could survive on a ship like that since they have no casinos. Why can't they have casinos? I hear they don't allow them because it is a Disney themed. But,that is absurd since they serve alcohol right????? I can't see myself ever going on Disney. If they were smart they would have a secret room for the casino and have dealers dressed up in Disney characters. HAHAHA!

But they have such great shows on Disney I don't need the Casino.

What kinda shows?

What I picture is seeing as a show on a ship like that is Mickey and Minnie on Broadway or some other show I could not stand. If I saw something like that I would jump ship and feed myself to the sharks. HAHAHA! And I wouldn't leave a tip either on the way out. :D

Of course Disney will have Mickey and Minnie shows. On top of it, they don't have casinos :(

C'mon guys...it is like being at a Broadway Show every night. I like Disney for a change of pace. They have the best Private Island and amazing food. Can't say that about any other Cruise Line I have neen on. I do understand how one could lose it though without the casino!

Okay I reconsidered! Maybe it wasn't fair of me to poo poo it if I haven't watched the show. I decided to actually try it out. I went to one of my favorite websites and found a sample.

I must say it is a good thing the clip was only 53 seconds long as I was moments away from diving out of the second floor upstairs window. HAHA!

I tried, but man, I can only imagine sitting through this and then not being able to run to the casino as there isn't one. I would head up to Lido Deck set myself up for a swan dive I guess. LOL!

Here is the video I saw. Oh my goodness!

HMC is beautiful...Castaway Cay is BEYOND! I think it is just one of the most incredible places I have ever been to, and yes there is an Adult Only area to the island. The open air Cabana Massage is just amazing!

What kinda crowd is on these ships?

It not as old a crowd as everyone says majority was probaly around my age but not a party. It is not the hairly chest contest Carnival crowd. It is a bit more sedate and mature than RCCL. We have only been on one HAL cruise but really enjoyed the service and the ship. We sailed the Eurodam when it was only a few months old last November and were unlucky enough to be on a cruise about a week after the election that had a couple of hundred passengers from the "National Review" with guest speakers Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson. (sorry if that offends anyone) They were hands down the most obnoxious group of bitter sore losers I have ever seen. That being said the Casino was wonderful, stateroom very very nice and food above average. It was nice to cruise and be pampered by the staff at every turn. Thus we booked another HAL cruise for January. I think I am done with Carnival it is just too much for me.

I'm with you. We did Disney a LOT before discovering cruising (I grew up in Central FL so easy trip to the grandparents). Mom wants to do a Disney cruise but I don't want to cruise without a casino.

I'd like to see Mary Poppins run a table...what game would she deal?

LOL ...Mitt Romney was sitting next to an ice sculpture one night at a dinner if the ice sculpture wasn't clear it would have been hard to tell them apart.

Disney is great to even do a 3 or 4 day cruise if you can bear it just for the service, the food and Castaway Cay. You can always spend one of those days gambling away in Nassau.

I dealt in a casino for 12 years and the tips are certainly appreciated. Most casinos (in our area) basically pay their dealers minimum wage and without the tips-you would lose the most of your dealers.

I agree that a dealer should provide excellent service to receive a tip. As pointed out, a dealer can be very helpful in making sure you get the bets you're trying to make. Actually dealers would prefer if you gave them the tip instead of betting for them. We figured we won about 1/4 to 1/3 of the bets made for us-although it's more fun to make the bet.

Roulette is the one game that I would make sure that I am tipping. An experienced dealer can drop the ball in an area of the wheel by adjusting the speed of the ball and the spin of the wheel. While it is very tough to hit a specific number, it's not that difficult to hit the area that it's in. This means that it is also extremely easy (unless the ball bounces several times around the wheel) to miss the area you're betting. A dealer has bills to pay and if they're not making any money off of you-it's easy to move on to someone that they can make money from.

As to the comments about the Canadians and British-are they true? In many cases-but there are also many Canadians and British that are very generous.
