Does anyone have any great suggestions for what to do in Icy Strait point? We are a group of 9 people - 4 adults and 5 children (ages 3,8,9,10,11).

Thanks for your help...

Icy Strait Point and Hoonah are almost one place, it's a short walk or drive from one to the other. ISP doesn't really have much there, it was basically created for the cruise ships.

We were there last week and went whale watching w/ Teckk Outfitters. He has 2 boats, but each can only carry 6 passengers so you'd need to split your group. Maybe he'd give you a special rate since since you are such a big group? Worth asking Keith or his wife, Edna. Others to check for whale watching are FISHES and G-wind. People there are very friendly, so if you call, ask them for suggestions or recommendations for your group size/age range :)

He also does a bear watch which I'd say you'd be pretty sure of seeing bears - Keith, owner, is a native and "knows" the bears there. Keith is quite a character, also a coach for the local HS wrestling team. Be sure you don't get stuck on one of the bear tours on the big green school buses!

The world's longest zip line is at Icy Strait Point. It was pretty expensive and a 45 minute bus trip to the top.

But for us worth every penny and we paid $99 each at the pier rather than more on the ship.

ICP is a small port and some walk to Hoonah which is a very small town which you will drive by if you take the bus to the top of the zip line. A few restaurants that people rave about there.

Other than that, have been told that ICP is the place for whale watching (in addition to Juneau which we did). Bear watching is also something to do here. We have bears in cottage country so personally not of interest to us.

If you choose not to do any excursions, there are several souvenir shops, a nice walking path along the shore and in a forrested area and thats about it.
