We are looking for a hotel that will allow us to stay 1 night before we go on our cruise and then allow us to park on their premises for 7 days. Does anyone have any experience/suggestions?

Thanks.

Parking in Manhattan is pretty expensive, too.

Several hotels offer parking for the duration of your cruise. You might want to compare costs with a regular hotel and just pay for parking at the port. No other port has more convenient and easy cruise parking.

Most hotels with specials will make you pay for parking the first night (when you are in the hotel) and then up to 7 nights free parking (or you could maybe negotiate more - especially for the ones who list up to 5 nights which would cover most current cruises).

Here are some you can contact:

Parking for the night you stay there seems to be a additional $15, which no one seems to mention, so parking must be expensive.

We didn't pay anything to park the night we stayed there pre-cruise in February, but I guess that could have changed since then.

Must be only typical of New Orleans as none of the hotels in Galveston of course charge to park there.

Lots to be said why its so popular to go out of Galveston.

Baloney. Your obsession with cheap parking is well known.

Relatively few hotels have free cruise parking in Galveston, but that is irrelevant, since this thread is specific to New Orleans.

Odd, news to me Im obsessed??? You sound more than a bit defensive when I say Galveston has cheaper parking, (its a fact, why get upset?). I would say more than 70% of the hotels in Galveston have free parking during your cruise. New Orleans has very few from what I can tell.

If anyone wants a list of other ideas for parking in New Orleans, here is one of the lists I have saved, though most prefer the Drury it seems, others listed here to compare.

thank you for your answer, I have been asking for months if they really charge to park there the $15 it says they do and you are the first one who could answer. ... or at least that I saw the answer. thanks again.

I still havent booked there, but plan on it.

Im just spoiled by Galveston I guess, obsessed??? hahahhahahaha :D Sounds to me like you dont like the comparison to Galveston. Not that Im obsessed.

You are definitely obsessed with cruising from Galveston

Cruising from New Orleans is a far superior experience. The lower cost of cruising from New Orleans more than compensates for any perceived higher cost of parking.

Holiday Inn French Quarter on Royal also offers a Cruise Special with parking included. Check the New Orleans section of the board for lots of hotel info.

Sorry but I have to agree with Nolalive on this one. Galveston cruise rates are higher. I prefer to cruise out of New Orleans instead of Galveston.

Can't remember for sure but seems like we had to pay for parking the first night in Galveston at Hilton in order to leave our car there for free during the cruise.

We have most of the Crazies staying at the Hilton this Sept, and they are getting free parking and free shuttle to the port. No charge to park period. (Iv never heard of pay one night in Galveston?) Mostly the choice is between a cheaper hotel with free parking vs. a little higher end hotel with parking and free shuttle in Galveston.

No argument, on the shorter cruises, New Orleans is cheaper, always wondered why?? More want to go out of Galveston? Who knows why. Ill let you know after I got out of New Orleans this Dec.

We'll just have to ignore the thread hijacker.

The links from the Convention Bureau are a starting point. When is your cruise?

But really, parking at the port at $14/day is what we like to do. You park directly on top of the terminal. The porters are there to take your luggage from your car - no need to lug it around.

Instead of a shuttle bus to taxi to check-in, you take an elevator. It could not be easier or more convenient.

Parking at the port is covered (except for the top floor), lighted, patrolled and secure. It has to be because it is part of the actual port facility. Security isn't an issue and neither is weather.

You call me obsessively cheap about parking and think you arent hijacking too (I merely made a comment and you name called)? Anyone would answer and defend themselves, look in the mirror for a hijacker of threads.

I hear you can park nearby at one place for $12 and someone else posted about a place for $10 a day, that didnt sound as close, no shuttle but maybe walking distance. There do seem to be other options if you dont want to stay at the Drury. There apparantly are a couple of nearby places to park in addition to the port, but unless you are doing 7 days might not be worth the bother?

Fulton Street garage was $10/day for cruise parking last I noticed. It used to be one of the official port parking garages. They have a shuttle for the short distance to the port. On the other hand, there is now an extra set of porters that may have a hand out for a tip. Since these people are providing a service, they should be tipped. Walking from this garage is another option, weather permitting.

The parking at Fulton is indoor, but not as secure as parking directly on top of the cruise terminal. It is where the Hertz location at the Convention Center parks their cars, so that should mitigate some fears.

The port in New Orleans is downtown and near the French Quarter - prime real estate - not some cow pasture field.

There is sufficient parking at the port for all cruisers, however.

We did have to pay one night to park there. Things may have changed since the hurricane though.

A side note: We waited two hours for the hotel shuttle and eventually called for a ride from a family member. I'm sure it must have been a "glitch".

First night parking is usually not included.

I avoid shuttles in all ports including Miami and Galveston. It takes too long to load them up and unload them. To get me to the food that much faster is worth the taxi cost.

Parking at the port in New Orleans eliminates shuttle and taxi costs, and lost time.

My post was refering to the Hilton in Galveston. I agree about port parking in NOLA. I would much rather pay to park in the secured area on top of the terminal and not have to deal with shuttles, traffic, etc.

We did the park and cruise at The Radisson in Port Canaveral last weekend and it was fairly painless. I hate leaving my vehicle in an open parking lot but the wait time to/from was short.

Hi Everyone:

I'm the one who started the Thread. I did find Drury's weblink. Thanks though for someone else suggesting it. In New Orleans, if you park at the Port, it's at least $10 because that's what it was a couple years ago. Haven't recently check though because we will be coming down the night before to stay because we have some family flying in to go with us on the cruise.

Thanks again. And just a suggestion, to some of you, lighten up. Some of you sound like your on the Chamber for Galveston, New Orleans etc. :)

John

Did you check with Harrah's? It's been a few years but all you had to do was play with card in machine for 30 mins and get your card stamped. So I played, got the card stamped, dropped off the luggage and waited for my sister to walk back to the port area. There's a route that goes through the Riverwalk Mall. We didn't stay at the hotel. Harrah's is right across the street from the mall. I don't know if things have changed since Katrina but FREE would be worth checking out and you wouldn't need a shuttle cause the Pier is in walking distance.
