Traveler353 Posted June 8, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 8, 2009 Great site: http://www.absinthebuyersguide.com/ Don't believe everything that you may think that you have heard. Hollywood has done a lot to give this wonderful drink a bad rep. Absinthe has been making a huge comeback in the last few years. Folks from NOLA you know what I am taking about. trock Posted June 8, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted June 8, 2009 It's an herbal, and not nearly as potent as they like to pretend it is ... We don't know if it had the wormwood (?) or not.. Also mixing alcohol with anti-depressents.. Not very good..
lollylew Posted June 8, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 8, 2009 I remember reading about this case in Vanity Fair a few years ago and thinking "Why was the cruise line to blame for the Smiths' excessive drinking?" It just goes to show you that (sometimes) we can't be trusted to take care of ourselves. JMHO Flame away!! :D
Ambrosia64 Posted June 8, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 8, 2009 They weren't blamed for him drinking too much, or even for him falling overboard. The actual lawsuit that was filed was his family alleging that the cruise line had not preserved the crime scene properly, and not until the authorities arrived. There were questions in his family's mind if his wife killed him, if the 'men from the casino' in the earlier stories had killed him for the money he was carrying, if he committed suicide, or if he just drunkenly fell overboard. His family was upset that it couldn't be investigated properly (in their opinion) because the crime scene hadn't been preserved. I *think* the additional lawsuit his wife filed was she felt she wasn't treated properly or compassionately enough after the fact. ShedQueen77 Posted June 8, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 8, 2009 WE Tv had a rerun of 48 hours on a few nights ago featuring this case and that of Ashley Barnett (the girl who died of a methadone OD while on the Paradise).

LemurCat Posted June 10, 2009 #14 Share Posted June 10, 2009 His family is never going to know what happened.... sounds like they were not too happy with her also... It's a very sad situation, but it seems she's moved through the grieving process already while the family is still going through it. Very unfortunate. kyrisong1 Posted June 10, 2009 #16 Share Posted June 10, 2009 Very sad for everyone, and I agree with L2J, probably we'll never know. The poor family will never get real closure or be able to know whether their son was murdered, betrayed or just plain got in a drunken accident. Really sad...........:-( Carole
Casino Player Posted June 10, 2009 #17 Share Posted June 10, 2009 http://www.courant.com/news/local/hc-george-allen-smith-fbi-records-0608,0,7705907.story?track=rss Thanks for posting this Trock. This may be one of those cases that never gets solved. I still think there is more to it than we already know. His wife may have had a major part to play. We need more details which may or may not be forthcoming.

It's very sad.. and I am not willing to point fingers at his wife.. Who knows what happened, what didnt happen etc... The bottomline seems to be they both liked to drink a bit too much.. Sad... Leaves too many unresolved feelings for the families.. :(:)
