I recieved this info from the US State Dept. dated Dec. 14th, 2004.

ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: U.S. citizens must enter Barbados using a valid U.S. passport. No visa is needed to enter Barbados for stays up to 28 days. There is a departure tax for travelers over the age of twelve. See our Foreign Entry Requirements brochure for more information on Barbados and other countries. For further information, travelers may contact the Embassy of Barbados, 2144 Wyoming Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20008, telephone (202) 939-9200, fax (202) 332-7467, Internet e-mail: barbados@oas.org; or the consulates of Barbados in Los Angeles, Miami or New York.

Yes, that is true if you are arriving by airplane.

If you are arriving by cruise ship, no passport is required. The requirement for cruise ship passengers to have a passport was recinded last summer.

Promise! :)

I checked with Royal Caribbean before we left on our cruise in December. You do not need a passport if you are on a cruise. In all ports, all you need is you seapass card (or whatever is issued by the ship) and a photo ID.

The statement re Barbados requirements is correct. As a cruise ship passenger you do not need a passport for your stay on the island as you will be entering the port. However, as a US Citizen, if you are embarking or disembarking the cruise in Barbados, you are required to have a valid US Passport.

Your statement re "In all ports, all you need is you seapass card (or whatever is issued by the ship) and a photo ID".. is not correct. If you are on a cruise to a country that requires you to have a passport or visa, you must have that item. You may not need it for the actual ports as your Seapass card will work with a photo ID (many cruise lines are starting to put your photo on those cards these days anyway). But you still have to have the passport to cruise.
