Yes,

The Chalet in the heart of Glitter Gultch. The are a few restaurants to choose from, but the one that gets the best word of mouth is the Salmon Bake restaurant. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to eat there, but everyone else raved about it.

The Chalet is actually at the north end of Glitter Gulch, overlooking the Nenana River Gorge. The independent restaurants I go to most often are Lynx Creek Pizza and the Salmon Bake, but each of the hotels has it's own good restaurant. On most recent visits I've been staying at the Denali Bluffs and usually eat there - both Lynx Creek Pizza and the Salmon Bake get very crowded.

I was staying at the stinky McKinley Village out in the boonies, so to me, being even on the North end of Glitter Gulch in in the thick of it. You just have to cross the street and you're there. I on the other hand, was eight miles in the middle of no where, stuck at a hotel where the shuttle was either late, or didn't show up at all.:( Learned my lesson about land tours the hard way!

I'm sorry your time at the McKinley Village Lodge was so miserable. We were fortunate in getting there just as they were opening their new lodge. We found the food there actually quite good. We enjoyed this property as it was so close to the river ... the first night we saw a moose and her two calves across the river. For us, it was a nice quiet property, although to be fair we had a car and didn't have to rely on their transportation.

We ate at the Grande Denali hotel (way up on the bluff) one evening. Pretty pricey (although normal for Alaska), but a high quality of food and a totally awesome view. Here's a shot of "glitter gulch" from that hotel. The large complex at the top is the Princess Denali. McKinley Chalets is the hotel complex to the upper far right.
