Noisy Carnival Cruise Ship Ruins Familys Cruise

Ok, I have read about 2/3 of this thread and am about to post what will probably be an unpopular opinion. I think the Moscoe's were justified in being angry. My family and I are early to bed, early to rise people who like to enjoy our ports to the full extent by having a good nights sleep the night before. I try very hard to research my cabin choice and book specific cabins for that very reason. We are not drinkers and don't do late night activities. We like to be in bed ad asleep between 11-12 and feel we have as much right to enjoy our vacation in that manner as others have to party.

As far as the $5,000 goes, that is not a ridiculous sum. We are a family of 5 and to have a balcony cabin on a low end 7 day cruise and an interior is costing us well over $3500 with a past guest discount AND with me checking the website frequently to ensure I am not missing any lowering of the fare (I have already had them recalculate our fair twice and we don't cruise until December). If you are talking about airfare, possibly a hotel stay, factor in some excursions, it is not unbelievable that they spent $5000 on that trip.

I am not the heaviest sleeper and I know if there were noise equivalent to someone having a conversation in my room, I would find it extremely disturbing.

Sorry, working in a law office I see all kinds of frivolous complaints, but I have to sympathize here. Our first cruise cost us more than $5000 and we had a fabulous time. Lucky for us, we weren't kept up late at night.

Oh, and for the record, on our second cruise, my oldest son who had a broken leg fell on the wet deck near the pool and suffered a concussion and we did not, I repeat, we did NOT ask for or receive any type of compensation. I simply gave him some aspirin and told him to take it easy for a day and asked that he not attempt to walk on wet decks anymore!

In the 2/3's you did read, did you read where the level was tested and found to be at 62 db which is in the normal talking range?

http://www.gcaudio.com/resources/howtos/loudness.html Here is a decibel comparison chart for ..well... comparison... lol

Again, I ask - could you go to sleep at at night, if someone was sitting on your cabin couch, talking at you?

'Cause I know I couldn't. I'm not defending these people, just being honest.

BaseballMom - I don't want to argue, I'm just asking for clarification. Do you feel that the family deserved compensation?

I agree that they have a right to be disappointed in their accommodations, but I'm not sure that it warrants compensation. They did have a choice, under the Carnival satisfaction policy, to leave the ship at the first port. Based on the information in the article, it sounds like the crew attempted to make reasonable adjustments, but the customers still were not satisfied. Just because they were not completely satisfied, that doesn't mean they should get compensated.

I think that Carnival was beyond generous with their offers. Asking for payment for the airfare and incidentals is simply greedy. It's a bit like asking a parking lot company to buy you a new car if you get a scratch in the paint while parking in their facility.

Actually, yes, I could. But then, my hubby snores so loud every night you would swear you were listening to a freight train going through a tunnel wired with amplifiers!

That actually got an honest-to-god LOL from me. :D I don't know how you do it, but your hubby owes you brownies and possibly a puppy, if that's true.

These people have a FOUR YEAR OLD.... shouldn't they be used to crappy sleep??? My DD is almost six.... the only time I get a perfect restful night is if she's with a sitter. If she's home, I sleep very lightly, hear every sound that goes thump in the night, wake up at least once or twice, etc.... so hearing noise wouldn't bother me a bit and I can't imagine how a couple with a 4 year old could be bothered by it either.

Each passenger should be entitled to a cabin that is comfortable

enough for a good nites sleep. That's what I expect when I lay out

money for our cruises. No one should be subjected to noises that

disturb their sleep and just because they have a child does not mean

they are sleep deprived.

The noise in the cabin was found to be normal for someone talking

while you are trying to sleep. That would be unacceptable for me

and would make it about impossible to enjoy our vacation. I would

never knowingly book a cabin that was noisy.

The OP did however, receive ample compensation for their problem

and if no other cabins were available, should have bought the earplugs

and a noise machine at the first port.

There's no such thing as a quiet ship:)LOL. I served onboard two different submarines in the navy and on one, my bunk was right underneath a ventilation fan. Get use to it and after a while I couldn't fall asleep if it wasn't on.

I have a tendency to ignore blatant exaggerations when I read complaints like this.

The family said "our sleep was ruined for the entire cruise".

How can 4 hours of entertainment ruin anyone's sleep for "the entire cruise"?

The music stops at 1am - 1:30am at the latest in the Atrium.

It isn't like the music went on until 8AM.....

Since the family did not use the Carnival Vacation Guarantee....they should not have received any additional compensation.

And to answer the question directed to me, yes I can and do fall asleep with people talking to me... I fall asleep watching tv. A lot of people do. I do understand what you are saying BUT the noise imho was not over the top. Like several others have mentioned, you get used to it. What about people who live in the city? People who live in country? You adapt.

Not in less than a week. That seems to ask a bit much, I think.

I guess my point is this: I can't sleep with the TV on. I wouldn't choose to sleep with the TV on. Although it's wonderful that you and several other posters are able (and choose) to do so, that's not a standard that can be applied to everyone. So how come Carnival feels it's OK to do so, without warning anyone?

I'll take one!! I already own earplugs :) And for the record I have NEVER had to use them on any of my cruises....

It seems alot of people on here would pay for the noisy cabins.........hear that Carnival:confused::p:D Now all they need to do is slap a notation on these particular cabins....easy peasy:D Problem solved......don't even have to discount them....

On one of our post-cruise hotel stays we stayed at the Milano Hotel in San Juan. I had read on a few reviews to make sure that you did not book a front room because of the noise of people partying all night. Well, I didnt say anything when we had a front room because I thought how bad can it be.

It was bad! The noise level from sirens, people screaming and hollering, horns tooting woke us up a few times. My husband wanted to go join in, however, I just took a couple more sleeping pills which did the trick.

LOL same with us pre-cruise.

We stayed during the festival of St.Sebastian..it quieted down around 6:00 a.m though

In retospect, I should have joined the party.

What a load of crock! Get real people!!! Inconsistencies everywhere!!!''First--Cabin 6363 is closer to the next set of elevators than the central atrium elevators (20ish cabins away).

Second-Cabin 6363 is above the promenade, specifically the casino bar and a few cabins down from the stage where the live music is.

I have been on the Valor is Cabin 6276, which is in FULL view of the elevators--open the door and you see directly into Cabin 6276 from the elevator banks in the atrium. The music in the atrium was never too loud and when my door was closed I didn't hear anything!!!! I was less than 10 feet away from the open space of the atrium!!!

Perhaps the TA or PVP the family booked should have showed them what was above the cabin and told them live music is played until 1am.

I also have to wonder if this family is like a person I know. It does not matter if they are having a wonderful time, they will compain, bitch, moan and groan until they get some form of compensation for their problem...They had no problem, they are the type that want to see what it takes to get something for free...They got a hotel upgrade from a standard room to a suite after a well rehearsed list of complaints!!!!! They do this all the time. Needless to say, for services like dry cleaners and restaurants they clue in mighty fast for people like them.....travel is a different matter!

I am absolutely appalled. #1 I'm shocked that anyone would complain of noise on a cruise ship. HELLO..... thousands of people. #2 I'm angry that Carnival offered compensation. There was nothing to compensate. Do the Moscoes expect compensation when a baby cries on an airplane? If the music in the doctor's office isn't soothing? There are millions of ways to complain about noise. Carnival opened a can of worms with this one. Just think of all the greedy cruisers who will have their hands out now just because the room steward didn't give them their towel animal. The room service cart had a squeaky wheel or the darn ocean made me sea sick. Give me a FREAKIN break. We were on the Conquest during Hurricane Ike. We were repositioned to New Orleans and had to find a new way to get home because our car was now under 8 feet of water. Did we complain? HELL NO!!!!!! It wasn't Carnival's fault. ***** HAPPENS!!!!!! I'm so ticked off at Carnival for paying this ambulance chaser that I am going to write a letter demanding OBC because I didn't get mine..... mine, mine, mine..... GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!! PEOPLE LET'S GROW UP!!!!! Life throws us curves. It how we handle those curves that shows what we are made of. I guess Mr. Moscoe is full of ***** because he sure can shovel it out!!!!!!!!!

;)You really shouldn't bottle up your emotions like that, it isn't healthy. ;)

Oh and BTW, I agree 100%

Great post! What a bunch of bufoons. My guess is that this family is miserable. Husband probably woke up one morning of the cruise after a night of drinking and something like this happened. :p

We are booked on Miracle on Nov 4th. We are in cabin 7220 by the Atrium. On our last cruise we booked guarantee and didn't like the location that much. So we decided to pick our own cabin this time.

We chose cabin 7220 from the available cabins list because it was centrally located but only had other rooms on the decks directly above and below (Lido is 2 decks up). I never considered Atrium noise.

Do they usually have bands playing in the Atrium? When we were on Miracle last July I don't remember there being a band there at night but I didn't always pass through there late. I'm just curious. DH doesn't do well sleeping with noise.

Let me see....to add to packing check list for cruise....ear plugs, good strong vocal cords....belligerent attitude....attorney's phone number.... I think that may cover it? ;):D

gee, i missed a great moneymaking opportunity. On the elation last week i was on the serenity deck when one of the big umbrellas came loose and fell over on me. I wasn't hurt, but hey, i suppose i could claim severe emotional trauma and a debilitating fear of large umbrellas. I had to force myself to spend most of the cruise out there.

Then there's the issue of room service arriving 5 minutes late one morning. How i managed to get through the day after that shock is beyond imagining.

I remember when the Destiny first came out, there were certain rooms over/near the disco or some other noisy place, that became known as the NIGHT OWL rooms. These were discounted, and were perfect for those partiers that were going to be up late.

I also think I remember when they launched the other two ships, these rooms were done away with, making them some other space.

Personally, I have had rooms TWICE next to the atrium, the second time booking it on purpose, being they were so close to the ample banks of elevators. Never remember hearing a thing, although I have been sleeping with the TV on for almost 30 years now.

I was in cabin 4168 on the Pride recently. It is right near the glass elevators and only two decks up from the Atrium and maybe a couple of nights I heard the piano music from the bar, but it wasn't very loud and after a few minutes in the cabin, I didn't even notice it anymore. So, on deck 7, you should be fine.

I have to agree with you. 6363 on the VALOR is the 17th cabin aft of the atrium elevator lobby door. Only the 5th cabin forward of the midship elevator lobby door. The midship elevator bank does not have an atrium. Carnival "agreed" there was noise in the cabin. Like they were going to stand there with 'professional compensation complainers" and say, "Noise, Wha noise!" "I doan hear no steenking noise!" The reason for the decibel meter was that there was no noise. These are people that worship at the alter of the penny. The reporter is from C Elliott's site. She SHOULD have researched the cabin location. But her BOSS, Elliott, loves to knock Carnival and cruising.
