Princess in Europe

Would someone please tell me if Princess ships remain on the U.S. Dollar system onboard when they are sailing in Europe rather than going to the Euro? Last August we were on a Costa ship in the Mediterranean. That ship sails the Caribbean during the winter months and uses the U.S. Dollar onboard but then switches to the Euro when they are in Europe. The exchange rate was awful for Americans because the switch was for the same exact amount with no allowance for the conversion rate; for instance, if something cost $5 US in the Caribbean, it cost 5 Euros in the Med. Since Carnival owns both Costa and Princess, I wanted to know what to expect on my cruise on the Ruby later this summer. Thank you.

When we sailed on Emerald Princess, Venice to Rome, in 2007, everything was in dollars. I am sure it`s still the same.

Princess NEVER changes currency. They always use dollars.

Yes, the Princess ships in Europe use the US$ for all onboard charges. The only exception is the Sea Princess which caters mostly to Brits. I believe it uses the GB Pound on board. Princess ships also use the US$ in Asia and South America.

Sun Princess/Dawn Princess on to/from Australia sailings use $AUD. That's the only current except Princess lists. Sea Princess doesn't really run routes catering to Brit's anymore.

I just returned yesterday from the Ruby Princess Barcelona to Venice and it was all in dollars. Enjoy - it was a wonderful trip.
