david2673 Posted December 15, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2004 Hello all, Just looking for some info on scooter rentals in St. Martin. Is it easy to get around on scooters? What are the rates? Are there rentals near the pier? We will be cruising on the QM2 and I have heard that we will have to tender in so i am not too sure where "the pier" is??? Thank you in advance for any info. TheWog Posted December 15, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2004 Didn't do scooters, so I don't have much info on those. Don't remembering seeing many either. The tendering pier is right at Front St./Great Bay Beach which is downtown Phillipsburg, so you will be dropped right where the action is. The dock for the ships is about a 5 minute water taxi ride away if they drop you there for some reason.
Clasina Posted December 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 16, 2004 Trust me, you do not want to ride a scooter on St. Maarten. Renting a car, maybe (some will argue that one). Better still, take a taxi and arrive alive in time to resume your cruise.
beary Posted December 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 17, 2004 Don't do the scooter. Even if you ignore the traffic which can be very dangerious, the roads are a major hazard for scooters as well.
david2673 Posted December 17, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted December 17, 2004 Thanks for the replies, It sounds like you folks have just saved me paying a deductable on a scooter. And saved my insurance carrier a wad of cash. Perhaps A couple of beer and a taxi ride are the way to go. Thanks again David
Heritage.Classic Posted January 6, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 6, 2005 We rented scooters in St. Maarten a few years ago. The roads were in poor condition but we had a blast riding around the entire island. Just ride carefully and you'll be fine. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
