We took the tour in 2006 and enjoyed it very much. The actual distance to the site is about a mile and a half. Given the fact that the sidewalks are sporadic and the temperature is hot, however, you may want to take a cab. I don't recall what the cab cost but the journey was relatively quick. If you feel adventurous, feel free to walk given how close it is. Sadly, the view is less than inspiring since you need to walk past the container terminal en route.

Are cabs readily available to take you back to the port? Walking over might be good exercise but after sipping good rum, I probably wouldn't walk a straight line!:D

You could always arrange with the driver that dropped you off to come back for you but Weiser's beach bar is close by so they should be cabs in the area.
