Germany: Kuhlungsborn to Warnemunde by boat?

I am planning on taking a river boat from Warnemunde to Rostock, hang around there a bit then the train to Bad Doberan to pick up the Molli on to Kuhlungsborn.

I notice on the satelite imaging that Kuhlungsborn has a large marina, can anyone tell me if it is possible to grab a ferry or other boat from there back to Warnemunde? If so, can you supply any info on that? If this is not possible, what other alternatives exist so that I do not have to take the train and backtrack on my way back to Warnemunde? It is around 35 km's between the two - about how much would a taxi cost? Other?

Cheers,

Cheers,

I am not aware of boat service from Kuhlungborn. But instead of taking the train from Bad Doberan back to Warnemunde, you could take the bus. We thought it was a scenic trip throught the country and along the sea side. The only 'backtracking' would be on the quaint Moli steam train and that is a lot better than taking a taxi, in my opinion.

There is a boat service from Kühlungsborn to Warnemünde.

The problem:

it's made for excursions from Kühlungsborn to Warnemünde and same day back, which means:

Morning from Warnemünde to Kühlungsborn

Afternoon from Kühlungsborn to Warnemünde

So if you decide to stay in the morning in Warnemünde/Rostock area you can easily go in the afternoon by boat to Kühlungsborn and get back on Molli-Train and bus back to Warnemünde.

If this would be an option for you let me know for further information.

You mean the other way around (abfahrt Kuhlungsborn in the morning). Yeah, that won't work for me. Would you happen to know the cost of a taxi from Kuhlungsborn to Warnemunde?

Danke dude!

Danke dude!

Sorry for confusing you!

My error.

O.K. I got the website of the shipping company:

http://www.msbaltica.de/fahrplan.html

The service is daily EXCEPT Thursday and Sunday

Some changes apply on August 7 and 9 during HanseSail event:

departure in Kühlungsborn: 10.00 hrs

arrival in Warnemünde: 11.30 hrs

then

departure in Warnemünde: 14.30 hrs

arrival in Kühlungsborn: 16.00 hrs

then

departure in Kühlungsborn: 18.00 hrs

arrival in Warnemünde: 19.30 hrs

If you want to take the boat see here:

http://www.msbaltica.de/lageplan.html

Kreuzfahrtterminal = Cruise Terminal (for your ship)

Liegeplatz MS Baltica = Berth for MS Baltica (boat to Kühlungsborn)

must be around this lighthouse:

In Kühlungsborn the bridge is located in the part Kühlungsborn Ost:

2009HWIHROScenicRoute543-vi.jpg

Return ticket 17.00 EUR (adult) and one-way is 10.00 EUR.

It's 34 km from Warnemünde to Kühlungsborn.

I never used a taxi from Warnemünde to Kühlungsborn.

So according to their tarif:

intiatial fee 2.70 EUR

first 3 kms @ 1.70 EUR = 5.10 EUR

next 11 kms @ 1.10 EUR = 11.00 EUR

remained kms (20) @ 1.20 EUR = 24.00 EUR

so roughly 43.00 EUR

according to meter.

I think that Kühlungsborn is no service area of Rostock Taxi so you can negotiate.

If you want to do one-way: I would pre-book the car and fix a price.

You can do either: try to find a Kühlungsborn taxi which collects you in Warnemünde. Check what is cheaper.

For a return as tour: I would definately fix the price and pre-book.

43 euros is reasonable enough, especially considering the time savings, so I'll probably end up hailing a cab when I'm ready to head back to Warnemunde. Thanks a lot for the 411!

ein prosit!
