RMS Olympic Posted October 1, 2009 #26 Share Posted October 1, 2009 Reading this thread got me to look at prices.....and schedules. Then I get a call from NCL...... so what do I do.....I book......and I swore I would never ever sail NCL again. Last time was on the Norweigen Sky in 2000. I booked the Sept 11, 2010 eastern caribbean. Right after laborday weekend, kids should be back in school....and not on the ship. If there is a hurricane, I will get to see how this top heavy ship rides in heavy seas. Since I dont spend time in the cabin, I booked one of these new studio cabins...up on deck 12, NCL gave me a discount for being prior military and also one for my latitude membership. Price was better considering they charge double for a single. Since the ship will be in St Maarten on my birthday, I can take the Golden Eagle catamaran for the day......always a fun excursion. Still cant believe I booked....

dagtoking1 Posted October 2, 2009 #28 Share Posted October 2, 2009 I hope you have a cruise too. NCL is my favorite Cruise Line just for the freestyle dining and not having to particpate in formal night. I like other things they do too like the Chocoholic Buffet. :D
West Coast Posted October 8, 2009 #29 Share Posted October 8, 2009 My partner and I (mid/late 40's) love NCL already but this ship looks like a must do! I'm trying to figure out what date to select - I'm thinking October/November. I agree - the ship looks fab. We're thinking of April 2011 - rates seem lowest then and maybe we can score an AC ?!? RMS Olympic Posted October 15, 2009 #30 Share Posted October 15, 2009 I just posted on another Epic board.......with my concerns. Do all dining rooms charge? What lounges charge entry? My impression is this new style of cruise product is ala carte. If....I have to pay to eat, and use many of the facilities, then the cruise becomes much more exspensive. Cheap I am not....but if the total cost to sail Epic comes out substantially more than other mass market ships....then I'd rather sale on an up scale ship with way less passengers. Does anyone know what restaurants and bars charge? I appreciate any info....the NCL rep that I bookedwith said she knew nothing of any surcharges....have I been snowed? Thanks Tom

Does anyone know what restaurants and bars charge? I appreciate any info....the NCL rep that I bookedwith said she knew nothing of any surcharges....have I been snowed? Thanks Tom Hi Tom, Let me try to answer a few of your questions. Basic food is covered in the price of the Epic fare. Included in the cost, there are 2 MDRs (The Manhattan Room & Taste), a 24-hour cafe (O'Sheean's), 2 buffets (1 indoor & 1 outdoor), pool-side grill(s) and 24-hour room service. That is more or less what is on most mainstream cruise lines. The surcharge restaurants are options you have if you want a better eating and quality experience. Most cruise ships have at least 1 pay restaurant while others (Oasis of the Seas for example) have several pay and ala carte restaurants to choose from. As for the Epic, the Italian, Asian, Japanes, Steakhouse and the dinner show (Cirque Dreams) have a surcharge that will range from $10 pp - $25 pp. The Epic Club and Restaurant is a private venue for suites/penthouse/villas. As for lounges and clubs, only the ice bar will have a cover, which includes 2 drinks. With the exception of the Cirque Dreams dinner show ($15pp), all entertainment is included (including Blue Man Group). Like on other cruises, you will have to pay for alcohol, sodas, spa treatments, excursons and the casino. The water slides are free but I believe there is a small fee for bowling. I think the rock climbing wall and repelling will also have a fee.
RickinNYC Posted November 18, 2009 #32 Share Posted November 18, 2009 Nice to see so many folks as excited about the Epic as we are. My partner and I are booked on a B2B Eastern/Western Caribbean cruise 7/24 to 8/6 in 2010! Very, very excited about the ship and the itinerary!!!! Plus, we're celebrating our 20th anniversary together (YIKES!).
CruisinMaterial Posted November 18, 2009 #33 Share Posted November 18, 2009 Mike - I think I might have goofed when I replied to you and said the date. I meant January 3, 2011, not 2010 because she's not going to be delivered by then! :o All - I absolutely cannot wait for this ship and the early reviews. Before I knew it was a potential go for it NCL raised the prices. :( I'm hoping that after the ship sails for a bit they get more reasonable with the pricing. It'd be great to do a studio but not with mom!
mcy03970 Posted December 23, 2009 #34 Share Posted December 23, 2009 My partner and I just booked on the 9/11/10 sailing. Anyone else going that week? Would love to hear from you! - Michael
tomma Posted December 28, 2009 #35 Share Posted December 28, 2009 Hi! We were thinking about booking a cruise on the Epic at about the same time. We are a couple 34 and 51. I was on here looking to see if there were any other gay couples going on the Epic. We went on a Cruise last year on the Majesty and it was sooooooo not gay. They had a few gay bar nights and we were the only ones who showed up to an empty bar. It would be great if we could count on meeting at least a few gay couples on this cruise. flboy1966 Posted January 13, 2010 #36 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Partner and I are doing September 4 Labor Day. Just booked the Spa Suite--24/7 access to the thermal suite/steam/sauna in the spa plus access to the Courtyard complex! I'll be going in early July 2010 for the travel agent inaugural, so I'll let you all know first impressions of the ship before it sails for the public! my partner and I are also booked on the Sept 4 EPIC. It would be great to meet other family members on that sailing.
M&D Posted January 14, 2010 #37 Share Posted January 14, 2010 We are doing the October 23, 2010 Epic cruise.....it will be fun to be in the first season sailing. We too enjoy NCL--they seem to fit our style quite well and we have had nothing but good experiences with them....come to think of it, we have never had a bad cruise. Is there such a thing? :) Mark and Donny...

chipandjohn Posted January 27, 2010 #40 Share Posted January 27, 2010 Chip and I (john) will be sailing on NCL Epic Oct 9th. We are sailing with some new friends and old friends that we’ve met on past cruises. We are also a part of a group booking of 75 cabins. It’s going to be one big party all week. We will make at least the one of the FOD meeting or what ever they want to call it on this ship. So much talk of changing the name of the meetings. So if we don’t see you in the meetings at least say HI in passing. Who knows we might just buy you a drink. John

pokeypoke Posted February 25, 2010 #43 Share Posted February 25, 2010 Hello... My partner and I are considering the Epic 11/6 and 12/4 Eastern Itinerary. Any others booked for these dates? This is her first cruise and I haven't been on one in years! We are really looking forward to this vacation and would love to meet others!! Leslie Hi Leslie, My partner, Woody, and I and a female couple (giocatori) Kim and Linda, are on the Epic 12/4/2010 sailing. We are on the regular Epic 12/4/2010 roll call but as of yet, no one has started a gay/lesbian roll call for this particular date. I'm sure there will be other "Family" booking this date. On our last cruise, there were only 4 gay Cruise Critics who joined our (gay/lesbian) roll call, however our ship had a very large amount of Family on board:)! We met many gay and lesbian singles/couples and had a fantastic time! I am sure you and your partner will have a GREAT and unforgetable vacation on the Epic. I know I am excited and can hardly wait:D!

Donh44 Posted August 19, 2010 #50 Share Posted August 19, 2010 Ernie - Where did you get the Epic brochure from? I requested one off the website and still haven't received it and that was over 2 months ago. I have received two NCL brochures for their regular ships though. I don't really need to know what the Epic looks like to book her anyway, I just know that I will be. Just price watching closely at this point. Each semester's tuition keeps changing as more people are penny pinching so I have to watch my dough too! Would love to have you along in January 2011! ~Jake If you still have not received an EPIC brochure, e-mail me at d.hooper729@comcast.net I think I have 2 of them and would be glad to send you one.
