2011 World Cruises Opening..............

Apparently there is the opportunity in 2011 of doing around the world on 3 Queens - QV to New York, then QE to Sydney and QM2 to Southampton. How cool is that??

Ken

New York with the Three Queens (again!) will be terrific with fireworks and all -- but it will be dark --- and cold ...but Sydney will be the highlight of both QE's and QM2's World Trips. This will be a real event, although it's Tuesday and Wed which will dampen the crowds some... Sydney loves these big ships like no other city and has the spectacular harbor to stage such an event. I imagine the two ships will leave together with hundreds and hundreds of boats escorting them out to sea.

We did the World Cruise in 2008 -- first half on QE2, switching to QV in Sydney. If you haven't seen them, see my videos for a preview of what's to come in 2011.. Tandem crossings -- 3 Queens in New York -- and Sydney!

Leave it to Myles to get the keys to QE(2) and take her out for himself! I knew he had a few connections but......;):p Hard to break habit isn't it typing the '2'?

I remember when a world cruise was an experience rather than high speed transit from each port! What happened to the days when a world cruise meant lots of overnights to see the ports fully? It used to be the norm to have three days in Hong Kong and Sydney as well as two full days in other major ports until cruise lines decided to keep us onboard to spend our money in the bars, casino and shops. The Cunard world cruises no longer have the same appeal to me:(

Do you know how lucky you are?

I see your point. Those were different days with a different pace. Of course, this WAS a major part of QE2's appeal to have the experience of going back to that bygone era of luxury travel. Liners and crossings and White Star service and all that. It surely appealed to us. QM2 is trying to keep that tradition -- QV a bit less. We shall see about the new QE. -- But for me it is less about that -- and more about the people -- the friends you make and the shared experiences you have on such a long voyage. I'm sure that first World Cruise for Cunard on the Laconia back in 1922 created friendships that lasted long after the details of those exotic ports had been forgotten.
