robinph Posted June 26, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2009 we are new to cruise critic, and would appreciate any advise,we are travelling 5th Feb 2010 to NZ on Sun Princess, and were wondering if there is anyone out there that has been to Akoroa and Bay of Islands that could give us some info on what there is to do there. We have some tours arranged in other ports but could'nt find anything much for these two places. Are there taxi's or tour guides at the warf that will take you around for a reasonable amount.Where does the Sun Princess anchor at Bay of Islands? Has anyone been on Sun Princess recently. We have just got off Dawn Princess 23 May 2009 cruise prior to her refit and found her to be looking rather tired. Was wondering if the Sun Princess was in the same sort of condition. Does any one know if she is scheduled for a refit in the near future
Sandielle Posted July 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2009 We are cruising around NZ on Pacific Dawn 20 Feb 2010, not visiting Bay of Islands but are anchoring at Akaroa instead of Lyttleton. Our itinerary on the P & O site has Akaroa in black (meaning you can't click on it for information) and no shore tours advertised - this may change as it gets closer. Anyway, I presume we will be tendered to shore as we will be there all day. On googling I found that there are boat cruises out to see the dolphins etc which you can board from the jetty. Apparently it's a pleasant small village and nice to walk around. Hopefully, someone else will have more information.
