lilmiss Posted June 30, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2009 Hi.. I just stumbled upon some info on this exhibit at Denali Princess Lodge. There is really not much info to be found. Just that its like a museum, where you experience the temperature of 40 below zero with a guide that also explains how animal in the wild protect themselves. Has anyone of you visited this exhibit ?? What is it like ??? What is the entrance fee ??? Thanks in advance. :D
Warrior1 Posted June 30, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2009 We did this at Riverboat Discovery in Fairbanks(they have two locations). It is $10.00 per person or $40.00 for up to six. We had six people in our group. It is not really a museum. You get a parka and they tell you alittle bit about what it is like to experience 40 below zero temperatures. You then go into a freezer type thing that was actually 48 below when we entered(about 7 minutes). You then experience the effects of the weather. They hammer a nail with a banana, let you throw a cup of hot water which turns into ice crystals, show you what oil looks like, and other pretty cool things. My youngest son(12 years old) wanted to experience Alaska in the winter because everyone talks about it when you go on these excursions, so we went ahead and did it. We thought it was fun, but the whole thing lasts only about 15 minutes and it was $40. It is something that is neat to say you did it, but probably won't spend the money to do again.
