Ms. Alpha Posted July 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2009 We are considering a Panama Canal cruise from FLL to Acapulco. What would be the earliest time we should book our flight to allow for disembarkation, transportation to airport and include time for potential customs delays etc. We arrive at 7:00 (advertised time) on a Saturday and would like to arrive home the same day. From what I see we have choices of flights at 10:55 or 12:15, otherwise we have to overnight somewhere. Also would rather not arrive home late Sun to go back to work Monday! daryleann Posted July 2, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2009 The ship time may be a bit different from the port time. I would play it safe and take the latest time - and remember that this is considered "international travel" and one usually should expect 3 hours early at airport. Doesn't always take that long, but it is 'required.' And do NOT take the ship transfer! You might not make it in time... and just get mad as you sit. Of course, you don't get to see anything of Acapulco this way - so you may want to take one day there and head home Mon morn. That is what we always do... less anxiety. Ms. Alpha Posted July 3, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted July 3, 2009 Thanks for the input! We would love to have the opportunity to stay an extra day, but will not be able to get the day off work! How long a taxi ride is it to the airport from the pier?
Ms. Alpha Posted July 3, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted July 3, 2009 Is the 12:15 pm fllight reasonable? We would need to be at the airport at 9:15 a.m.
daryleann Posted July 3, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 3, 2009 Found this info - bit dated but still valuable: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g150787-i177-k1517333-Transportation_from_cruise_port_to_airport-Acapulco_Pacific_Coast.html If your ship offers self embarkation or whatever they call it, do that and go out early. If not, tell them you need to be in the first group or so off ship.
Sunny AZ Girl Posted July 5, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 5, 2009 Any advice about the airport there for arriving flights? We plan on coming into Acapulco two days before the cruise to have time to see the city. A little nervous about flying into Mexico.......:o
