Belize excursion ideas in August

Going on Carnival Legend in August to Belize. Thinking of Taking the Altun Ha and city tour excursion, but worry that it might be too hot in August. Have 3 teenagers with us. Has anyone taken the ship excursion to Sergeant's Cay or Goff's Cay snorkeling? Which one is better? We have one non swimmer in the family. Usually we like to do things on our own but for Belize we decide to go with the ship for a peace of mind. We are not keen on ziplining or cave tubing. Any suggestions?

I've never been to Belize, but I've been looking for excursion ideas as well. I came across Coral Breeze tours, which I've been told is an excellent tour company. They have several different excursion options.

We are going to be in Belize next week and are unsure what to do also. I am not sure if another swimming day is necessary. We have a pool at home and only use it occasionally. We took our grown kids to Altun Ha last year and enjoyed it, and the city tour was just enough. Hope you have a nice visit.:)

We were in Belize on the Miracle 3 years ago. We snorkeled the coral and swam with the sharks. It was awesome. We booked it ourselves and had no probelm. We will also be on the Legend in August.

We did Goff's Cay last September. We had a great time. HOWEVER, there is nothing to do there aside from snorkeling and swimming (the coastline is quite rocky). If you are looking for a very laid-back day - it is perfect!

Thanks for all your replies. Heard about an excursions called shark/ray/snorkel or something like that. Just curious, is it scary to swim around sharks? We have one non swimmer in the group, would it look totally silly for an adult to swim with a life jacket on if the tour operator provides one? I heard about Carol Breeze tours. It has mixed reviews cos some people are not thrilled with them subcontracting to Hammerhead tours? Any comments? Considering Altun Ha for August, wondering if it would be really too hot to walk around, we will also be bringing 3 teenagers.....

For Belize, there really are two main choices... Mainland tours or Belize Cayes / the Barrier Reef.

The Belize mainland choices are Mayan Ruins, Cave Tubing or Zip line. While these are excellent options...they aren't for everyone. Young children cannot go Cave Tubinn or Zip lining. Also anyone that is older or would prefer a non-strenuous day will find that the mainland tours can be exhausting.

For an inexpensive day, Caye Caulker is a great spot.

To get to Caye Caulker, you take the Water Taxi.

US$12.50 round trip.

45 minutes one way.

The water taxis do not go outside of the Barrier Reef so the water is normally flat and calm.

Water taxis are large, covered, motor boats. Their schedule is reliable.

They leave Belize City in the morning at 7:30am, 8:00am, 9:00am and 10:30am. Water taxis depart Caye Caulker for Belize City in the afternoon at 1:30pm, 3:00pm and 4:00pm. They have back up boats on hand, so even if the first boat is full, they have a second boat on stand by.

The Water Taxi terminal is just down the street from the Cruise Ship landing. You could take a taxi cab, but save yourself $10 and walk. The streets have some vendors...fruits stands, Cashews, hair braiding etc. The walk is short and worth saving the money.

The Water Taxi terminal is new and air conditioned. There are littte shops inside selling drinks, snacks, disposible cameras etc etc. You will purchase your tickets to Caye Caulker inside the terminal.

After your boat ride...you will land on Caye Caulkers main pier. Head off the pier and go north to the Split...this is Caye Caulkers most popular beach / swimming spot.

The islands was split in half by a hurricane over 40 years ago, and the natural split that formed is by far the most popular daytime swimming spot. It is a great place to kick back and enjoy the day.

After the Split, you should explore the Caye. The entire caye is only 1 mile by 4 miles, so you can easily explore it on foot, but bike rentals by the hour are very common. The streets on Caye Caulker are sand and there are no cars...bikes and golf carts are the main forms of transportion.

Walk down Front Street and visit the artists stalls at the Palapa Bar and check out Toucan gifts for everything Belize. If you like funky places, stop in Herbal Tribe for a drink before heading down the street. The cheapest rum on the Caye is at Joe Habaneros who's Happy Hour runs from 11am to 11pm...Rum drinks are US$ 2 and they have Lobster Pizza.

You can finish off your day sitting at Paradiso or the Sports Bar...both have a view of the main pier and you can sit and enjoy your last 30 minutes on the beach, away from the crowds that are waiting for you back on the ship!

Well, that's it. You should leave the island with some beautiful pictures and and some unique souveingers!

Just got back from the Enchantment of the Seas and we were in Belize City on Thursday. We did the zip lining and cave tubing through Major Tom's. You can do one of the two, or purchase the combo package. The cave tubing was incredibly relaxing. We had a great guide and really enjoyed this excursion. The zip lining was fun - but nothing like you will experience in Costa Rica. If you do this, don't plan on shopping - there really is not much time - it's a full day. Major Tom guarantees that you will make it back to your ship on time. We did but there were some nervous people on the bus who thought we were not going to make it. There were several tenders after the one we were on.
