handfordr Posted July 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2009 Any suggestions on a decent or better Southampton hotel that is reasonably priced and centrally located? There are a number of hotels that could conceivably meet your criteria. The following are probably the most popular used by cruise people. A cluster of 3 hotels closest to bus and train stations (walkable) near the dock gates and next to a shopping mall ETAP - ultra low cost no frills hotel, recently opened part of Accor group Ibis - Next door to ETAP and owned by some people, and is one step up. Novotel - Next door to ETAP and owned by Accor, this is the option if you want services akin to a 4 star. De Vere - arguably the most plush full service hotel and can be very good value at weekends Holiday Inn - typical Holiday Inn, looks a bit dated in a 60's block kind of way but is fine inside. Jurys Inn - Nice mid range hotel, a bit further away from the port area than the above, but convenient for town centre Southampton Park - Just along road from Jurys Inn and adresses a similar market to the Jurys Inn Thre is a hotel map at the foot of the url below showing the above hotels relative position to each other, the cruise terminals and the bus/rail stations: Southampton Hotel Map
esq007007 Posted July 8, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted July 8, 2009 Thanks so much for your suggestion and the helpful map. Since there is a great deal at the Ibis and we will only need a room to crash after a long flight the day before our cruise, not to mention the great location, we'll opt for it. thanks again
AliceS Posted July 12, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2009 We were just on the Crown Princess and stayed in Southampton for two nights pre-cruise. We stayed at Hunter's Lodge. It's a B&B and is very nice. The host and hostess could not be more gracious and they breakfast was very good. We took the train to Portsmouth one day and just took a taxi to the pier on cruise day.
