dining on embarkation?

Recommended Posts

i will be leaving boston on the spirit to bermuda at 4pm. i understand our cabins will not be ready until 2pm, so can we have lunch before that? if so, in what dining facility? also can we take our carry-ons into the dining rooms since we wouldn't have any place to leave them.

thanks

Dining rooms will not be open, but the Buffet will be, and so will the Bier Garten and the Blue Lagoon. And yes, you can bring your carry on's with you, but I'd say go find your room, and ask a room steward (they will be all over the hallways) if you can just leave your bags in the rooms. They usually say yes. Have a good trip!! I'll be sailing on the Spirit again on the 21st of August!

they usually have the hallways closed off, so that the room stewards can get the rooms ready in a timely manor. kind of defeats the purpose if everyone was trying to find their rooms to drop stuff off before the rooms are ready...easier to just turn your carryon over to the stevadors with the rest of your luggage before your board..unless there is something you can't live without for a few hours.

Please respect those closed doors and allow them to get the rooms ready for everyone .... :)

the buffet will be open, but so is the "windows" dining room. they don't advertise it and crew members will try to send you to the buffet, but the Windows will be open. yes, you can take your carry-ons.

it's been said that some of the ships have places for you to store the carry-on until your cabin is ready...this wasn't available the last time i was on the spirit..maybe someone who has cruised very recently can tell you where it is?

we take as few carry-ons as possible.

if the weather is nice, they will have a send-a-way party (with food)..you won't starve between check-in and sail-a-way!

Hello!

We also had lunch in Windows...very few people were there...took our carry on and had a wonderful formal lunch. We knew we were on vacation and we had "Arrived"!

I strongly recommend taking a carry on with a change of clothes for each guest, all medications, camera, swim suit, and any other absolute essentials. Bags an get lost, arrive late, or as we have seen posted, never arrive, The inconvenience of keeping it with you, is not a big price, if the unthinkable happens.

My favorite meal of the cruise is lunch on embarkation day at the MDR. While the herd is up at the trough, aka buffet. The dining room is relatively empty and quiet. Really feels like vacation.

While you absolutely cannot expect that your room will be done, in our two past sailings out of Boston our room was ready as soon as we boarded--and both times that was prior to noon. Again, you cannot expect that. But if it happens you can be pleasantly surprised.

And by ALL MEANS DO pack a small bag--that is absolutely imperitive so that you have sunscreen, medications, toothbrush/paste, and yes the proverbial change of underwear. Luggage does get lost--it can ruin your vacation--or you can effectively plan how to manage it if it happens.:)

i don't know, maybe this is going to sound really naive and stupid but how in gods name can they possibly screw up and lose luggage going on that one ship. you give it to them at the dock for that ship, where would they send it???!!!! that's just incredible.

luggage tag gets torn off

the porter puts it down and the ship's crew doesn't get it

gets put in the wrong cabin

you get upgrade, luggage goes to old cabin

stuff happens, be prepared! (but it's never happened to us)

always have a day's clothing, all meds, travel docs, all electronics in carry-on

Avoid the buffet. Everyone heads there. Go to Windows instead. It's very peacefull. Don't order the sandwich though (it's dissapointing). You can check your carry-ons at Maharini's Lounge (near the casino).:)

If we can get on the ship early ehnough, we usually hit the buffet, eat what we like and then head down to the MDR for dessert. If you get on the ship later, the buffet is a mad house, and really hard to find seating.

Because it is very often that there are several more than one ship all docked at the same time, with luggage coming on/off, and luggage getting shifted around everywhere. It looked like mass confusion when we boarded our ship in New York. We never did find anyone to help, but found a cart with our ships name on it. We ended up placing our luggage on the cart and hoped that it would show up in our cabin. It did.

Also what has happened is that the luggage has gotten on the ship --but gotten to the wrong stateroom. If people are observant, and care, they'll notify the steward right away. But there was an incident reported on here just awhile ago where the wrong luggage sat in a closet for nearly the week before finally getting moved to the right cabin. So stuff happens.

Although it's not advertised, usually one of the two main dining rooms is open. We just wandered around to both of them, found the open one, went in and were seated and had a lovely, quiet, leisurely lunch. And yes, our carry-ons came with us. We just tucked them under the table.
