Driving from Houston to New Orleans

We will be driving to New Orleans for our next cruise. This will be our first time cruising out of this port. Can you give me suggestions for the best place to park? Is there any covered parking available? Did you park at the terminal? If not, where?

Parking at the terminal is in a covered garage. You drive up drop luggage go park then take elevator to check in.
