Scenery from Ship

Since no one has answered you in over a week, I figured I would. We did RCI from Harwich 2 years ago and did Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki first then SP, Talinn and Copenhagen so the port side would be the shore side both ways. But, we were never so close to shore to see much of anything. The Stockholm fjord is beautiful but if you have ever been to Georgian Bay, you have seen the fjord but for the size of the ships passing through. This is the land of the midnight sun so if you are there in the summer, the sun doesn't set until 11 pm. We found ourselves on the sun deck and outside a lot as a result, even well into the night but as for scenery, don't make your accommodation decisions on that account. Hope for good weather--that will really make the difference.

We did the Scandinavian Cruise in July on the Constellation. We started in Stockholm and ended at Dover, visiting nine Baltic ports in all. The only land to be seen was during the entry/departures of fjord locked ports and since they were fjords, the land was on both sides and equally beautiful from either side. Since entry/departure sometimes happened during dark there wasn't always a view to be seen. In my opinion, it makes no difference which side that you are on in the Baltics. We usually went to the bar at the highest point of the ship and watched the entry/departure from the panoramic windows.

Some extracts from my journal are:

- July 4, 2004, Stockholm 4: - The three hours after leaving port were with spectacular views - a must see from deck

- July 9, 2004, Tallin, Estonia: - Watched us sail into Tallin during breakfast.

- July 12, 2004, Warnemünde, Germany: - After returning to the ship around 7:30PM, we went to the Reflections lounge to watch the departure. The people of Warnemünde, were all gathered to watch us sail out and were waving and singing. This was genuine, not staged. A sailing ship barley got out of our way in the sea lane - it seemed that we would collide and the Warnemünde Police boat had to pursue the sailing ship to get it to move - a close call, or so it seemed. The ship's horn blew for at least ten minutes.

- July 14, 2004, Copenhagen, Denmark: - Went to the "Reflections" lounge to watch the sail out..

- July 15, 2004, Oslo, Norway: - We went to the 11th deck to watch the sail away. Norway's Fjords are so very beautiful!

Our itinerary was:
