mtnhappy Posted July 16, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2009 How much is Canada's export visitor tax now? I think you have to pay the tax when you leave the country, right?
CanadaFour Posted July 17, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2009 I know that up to a 2007, a visitor could claim tax refunds for the GST on accomodation and personal items that would accompany them on their return to their own country. Is this what you are referring to? If so, it is no longer in effect. I am not aware of a tax charged for *leaving* Canada, although airports may have fees (airport improvement fees) that all travellers must pay....... mountainhouse Posted July 17, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2009 Here's a govt site with the same info. Our experience in Victoria last month, was that the nice folks greeting us at the port gave us souvenir pins, and charged us nothing when leaving. :D So it was all good!
