VOYAGER REVIEW 4/25--PART TWO

Recommended Posts

Thanks to those of you who took time to respond to the first part of my review. Please excuse all the typo's I've been sick with a really bad head cold and I don't think my brain is working to well.

Judyf--the Voyager Expo is just like a said, held on the Royal Promenade(Deck 5) and its a place where you can see all the specail things that are available. It begins at 2:30PM -- 3:30PM and you register somwhere in the middle of the deck. Just follow the directions over the public address system. You do have to be there when they do the drawing or they draw a new card. They raffled things like waverunner passes to be used at Coco Cay, Dinner for two at Portofino's, key chains, aquamouse, bingo packages and I don't remember what else. It was fun to be a part of and if nothing else you can get those cocconut cookies.

Teapot44--we had been to Coco Cay before and that's we decieded to stay on the ship, besides it was one of the few days the pools were so empty!

Our stateroom as I said was on deck 6 and looked out onto the Promenade, it was fun to
just sit and watch people, and wave to those that looked up and the people across the way. Of course, formal night was great we just sat there and watched the ladies walk by. We did a thumbs up & down, of course no thumbs down were ever shown to the people, but a couple of ladies did look up and we gave them thumbs up! They laughed and gave us thumbs up. Just something dumb but we enjoyed ourselves. Karen was convinced that we needed to take clothes pins to make sure that our curtains stayed closed so we wouldn't be a show. No need to worry there are 3 sets of curtains on the windows. One is a sheer set, when closed unless you stood right in front of them and changed you could see a thing. The second set of curtains kept the light out & third set were "pretty" ones for us to look at.

DAY THREE:
This was our first at sea day and I just don't know how the day went by so fast. Karen was obessed about getting ship shape dollars(the dollars they give you for join activities, one dollar per activity) so she set the alarm for 7AM to be up and read for Pure & Simple Stretch class, then walked a mile. I slept until she returned around nine, this was our morning routine. Off to the Windjammer for breakfast, if you walk through the front of the Windjammer where it is most crowded, go to the back you will find a part of the Windjammer called "Island Grill" much less crowded and same food. Again we had breakfast watching the water and being amazed at how blue and clear the water was. Back to room to check the Compass and get our schedule for the morning. Off to Cleopatra's Needle for line dancing class. This class was a lot of fun, even if I spent most of the time laughing at myself. I'm a terrible dancer, once reason being I can't tell my left from my right, so you know where this is going. After the line dance class it was off to the Spa for the "No More Bad Hair Days" seminar. Interesting class but not what I expected. It was more like a chemistry class but the fun part was you got a free consultation with one of the hair styleist for free. Schedule our consulations for 2PM. Left there for our Meet & Mingle Party in the High Notes Jazz Club on Deck 14. Now I know where the day went, we spent it running from one side of the ship to the other, but good exercise. Anyhow about 16 of the 34 people that signed up came to the party. It was really nice to meet the people we had been taking with. We had a very nice group of people, but we didn't see them after this party. Ran into a few people here and there. Back to Windjammer for lunch and then back to the casino to play more Black Jack. I did well and was still up so walked away from the table. Played a little video poker and won a few more dollars. Why didn't I just quit there??? I do believe that Karen was still a head at this point as well. I guess we spend a good part of the afternoon there. We then went to the gemstone & diamond talk given by the Cruise Director Kevin??? I can't remember his last name. At some point this afternoon Karen got tickets for the Ice Show and I went to get more cookies . Time to get ready for dinner. Had a nice dinner and then back for more cookies and off to bed. Like I said we were addicted to the cookies, and you couldn't tell there was any night life on board by us.

DAY FOUR:
This morning we change our routine & I went with Karen to walk a mile. While doing our walk we got a nice view of the island of Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Back to the room to clean up, off to Windjammer for breakfast(there's a pattern developing here) back to room to pack our bag for our excursion. But first we walked to the Taj Mahal for a little shopping. I must say here that after walking to the shops, I WOULD NOT GO INTO TOWN! As soon as you left the cruise dock we were immediately hounded by the ladies to have our hair braided, the men wanted to give us tours of the island. Even if you just said no thank you and kept walking they still continued to follow you. One man actually said to us "what do you plan to do walk all day, you can't be that dumb." The ladies all want you to go back to there shop and have your hair done. It really was annoying and we tried our best to be nice. In the end we just kept moving. Walking back to the ship, the beggars were out but if you just kept walking there were no problems. We were scheduled to do the River Tubing excursions through the ship, so we headed back to the ship to join the tour. Unfortuneately, I have a stomach problem and while waiting for our tour, my stomach acted up. Even with the prescription medication, I couldn't get it to settle down so in the end we had to cancel. What upset me the most was Karen had booked and paid for this tour and because we were inside the 24 hour window they wouldn't give her any money back unless I went to the ship's dr. and had him state I was too sick to do the tour. Our wonderful room stewart, Ritca told us not to do that. The Dr. would charge much more money then we had paid for the tour. In the end I had to let it go. Again we got to spend a very quiet and enjoyable day on the ship. We slept for ahwile, went to the lib. got books, went to the pool and sunned ourselves. While dodging the rain showers.

Before I close this section I want to take a minute and tell you just how hard those cabin stewarts work and that they deserve every penny of your tip and more if you can. Ritca insisted on coming in and changing the sheets on our beds and doing just a litltle cleaning, all the while, telling she would be finished in just a minute and how sorry she was for bothering me.Trust me she didn't bother me a bit, but watching change the sheets on the bed, wore me out, and her idea of a little cleaning was dusting every place dust could settle, scrubbing the bathroom, emptying the trash cans, and making sure there was nothing more she could do for me. All through the day, whenever she saw me, she would check to see how I was feeling. When we left for dinner that night, she gave me a hug and told me she was so glad I was feeling better. I don't for one minute believe she did any of this for a better tip but because she truly cared about me, and her work.
I'll sign off for now.

I was glad to see your part 2, sounds like you had a ball inside your promnade cabin people watching....that alone can be a sport!
Sorry you had to miss your Dunns trip, it's a good thing your cabin steward advised you about the doctors fee's, although you missed the trip and were out the money, your health is most important.
I know wxactly what you mean about going from one end of the ship to the other, I think they do that on purpose! just kidding, but it is good exercise.

Sorry your not feeling well....get well soon.

Angel in Fl. DId I miss part 3. I wanted to ask some questions about the Dollars for the actities. What did your sister do with them at the end of the cruise? On BCL you collected punches on a card and got a t-shirt on the end.

Thanks

Sounds to me like your stomach was telling you that you were eating wwwaaayyy too many cookies

We will be on the Voyager in just a few weeks ( june 13) and we've enjoyed reading the review so far. I, too, wondered what she purchased with the cruise dollars that she earned through the activities. How many did she manage to rack up?
