MilCruiser Posted July 20, 2009 #101 Share Posted July 20, 2009 I have never lost $ on a cruise. I only count what I start the cruise with compared to what I end the cruise with. 2 successive cruises I won enough to pay for the entire cruise plus. On the last cruise I was not so lucky. I only won about $800. Mother has been lucky as well. It can and does happen. To those who are convinced that it never will pay, nothing said here will convince them otherwise. The secret to gambling is knowing when to quit. (Not easy to know when but it does make the difference).
MilCruiser Posted July 20, 2009 #102 Share Posted July 20, 2009 TahoeBob, can you confirm this? I'm dying to know if it's true. Thanks :D It is true. The slots today use microchips randomizing each spin. If you stop to take a drink you will change the spin result. A quick google of slot operations will verify if you like. TahoeBob Posted July 20, 2009 #103 Share Posted July 20, 2009 Right its mainly if you win a jackpot all at one time, that you would have to fill out paperwork. My friend a few months back won $3000. in one night but on various machines and amounts, all tax free. Your statement is not quite correct, The casino is not required to report $3000.00 winnings on different machines, but it is still taxable income. If the IRS finds out about it is another story. pammycakes Posted July 20, 2009 #105 Share Posted July 20, 2009 I walked away with over 700.00 on the 2 cents slots and my son turned 25.00 into 250.00 ( his first time gambling) on the victory 7-12-09 thru 7-19-
tammy7 Posted July 20, 2009 #106 Share Posted July 20, 2009 Its almost better to win smaller jackpots, just remember don't deposit!! :o My husband did well on craps on our last cruise, probably better odds than slots.

watertime Posted July 20, 2009 #108 Share Posted July 20, 2009 I never won anything on a ship. About 30 years ago, my parents won a new car from a church lottery. I was only 8yo at the time. Was awsome though
tammy7 Posted July 20, 2009 #109 Share Posted July 20, 2009 I do better at the indian casino's than a cruiseship, once we were going across county in a motorhome and stopped at a few casinos and won won over $1000.00. Paid for our gas for the entire trip, so it was a nice surprise.
Pegs222 Posted July 20, 2009 #110 Share Posted July 20, 2009 I was on vacation on the East coast this last week and I was visiting with a gal that cruised Carnival to have fun but not to gamble as the slots/tables were cold. She said she sailed another cruise line as their slots/tables were hot. I have no idea if this is true. I am not sure I understand why anyone would sail to gamble, but that is just me. Drew B Posted July 20, 2009 #111 Share Posted July 20, 2009 I am not sure I understand why anyone would sail to gamble, but that is just me. Do you mean SOLELY to gamble, or do you mean you don't know why anyone would want to spend a good deal of their time aboard gambling? If the latter, for some, it is a very enjoyable pastime. I don't understand why anybody would choose to spend their time dancing or singing karaoke or going to trivia or the hairy chest contest or art auctions or any number of other things people choose to do on their cruises. As long as THEY enjoy it, though, that's what really counts... If you mean the former, I would guess it's because if you live in/near a cruise port, the cost of food/accomodations per day may well be higher if one were to choose to go to a land casino. I live in L.A. If I really wanted to gamble one long weekend, I could go to Vegas, spend probably at least $100 - $150 per night (at the casino rate, not even the advertised public rate) for a decent room in a decent hotel. I would then have to add food and travel costs. Assuming this was for 2 people, it would easily come out to over $600, and that's if we drove and ate super cheaply. If we ate like I eat aboard a Carnival ship, it would probably total over $1,000. On the other hand, I could hop on the Paradise for a 3-day cruise to Ensenada for less than $350 pp on an average weekend... Sometimes it costs as little as $150 pp... Cincy Gal Posted July 20, 2009 #113 Share Posted July 20, 2009 One question I forgot to ask is...How much did you invest to hit the 10K? DH had already headed up to bed (loser) but I stayed to play a little longer as the machines were being nice to me :). I was on a quarter machine when the show let out and got very crowded in the area where I was playing. So I moved to a dollar machine no one around and placed $50 dollar bill in the machine. I was headed to bed after I had played that out. Hit with $30 still in the machine. It was a two dollar max 5X.
kingtns Posted July 20, 2009 #114 Share Posted July 20, 2009 I hit $4000 twice on the same machine last summer on the Miracle!! The crew I was friendly with was freaking out saying they never saw that happen before!

Thats the way to do it, hit and run. I never won anything on our cruises, Lets hope for the best in Sept.
MilCruiser Posted July 21, 2009 #118 Share Posted July 21, 2009 what games do you play? Mostly blackjack. I will poke around on the slots occasionally but that's only when the BJ tables are cold. My sucess rate on the machines are much more hit or miss.

JohnandEileen Posted July 21, 2009 #120 Share Posted July 21, 2009 I was on the carnival aprentice cruise from nyc when they had all the past contestants and won big in the casino maybe it was all for the camers having lots of people win.I only play blackjack in casino and on tha cruise they had a texas hold em tournament also with a few passengers winning as well but that I didn't win but who cared only time I won 5000 on any ship Good Luck
WinnipegCruiser Posted July 21, 2009 #121 Share Posted July 21, 2009 I learned it after I was choosing between two MegaBucks machines in Vegas. I sat down at the one on the right, and few minutes later, a woman sat down at the one on the left and almost immediately won $50,000! I was chatting with her about how I was kicking myself for choosing the wrong machine, and the slot attendant who came up explained that the outcome would have been different if I'd chosen the machine on the left... Ya, you could have WON $100,000! (Sorry, just pointing out that a different outcome might be a better outcome)

The odds are what they are, and it comes down to how everybody plays as well as luck. If the slots were paying off better on that cruise, then I may suspect that it was intentional... Ya, you could have WON $100,000! (Sorry, just pointing out that a different outcome might be a better outcome) Very true. In that case, maybe I would have won the $18 million MegaBucks... :(
cherylroslyn Posted July 21, 2009 #123 Share Posted July 21, 2009 Phew well that actually makes me half smile.. i thought we had missed the great win! I didnt realize the slots were set up that way.. only time we are ever inside a casino is during a cruise.. you can imagine tho, that thought would probably not had entered my head then even if i knew it, thanks for the info I feel your pain. On my last cruise my 18 year old daughter was giving me a real run for the money in the behavior department. I got up out of my chair to o check my bill because of a drinking issue. I was back in about ten minutes and a woman was jumping up and down at my machine....she had just won 1500.00. Then I really wanted to strangle my daughter. Thankfully she has outgrown that phase and that is worth far more than 1500.00 ......
cheapseatsjr Posted July 22, 2009 #124 Share Posted July 22, 2009 I won $700 on roulette and another in our group found a slot machine that he renamed his personal ATM. Anytime he needed money he went to that machine. By the end of the cruise he had won over $1000.
Casino Player Posted July 22, 2009 #125 Share Posted July 22, 2009 I was on vacation on the East coast this last week and I was visiting with a gal that cruised Carnival to have fun but not to gamble as the slots/tables were cold. She said she sailed another cruise line as their slots/tables were hot. I have no idea if this is true. I am not sure I understand why anyone would sail to gamble, but that is just me. All tables and/or slot machines go through hot and cold periods. On slot machines it is hit or miss. You choose which game you would like to play and play it often. Know all the rules. How you play the game. If you could make hedge bets to offset possible negative outcomes. The casino is just one thing to do on a cruise ship. I like to play in the casino. Most passengers go through the casino even if they don't stop to play any game. I met a guy on a past cruise who loved going to art auctions. I met someone else who loved going to the pool. On cruises people enjoy doing different things. It is your vacation and you should relax and enjoy whatever you choose to do on a cruise ship.
