Early reservation necessary for Denali Shuttle?

I am wondering how busy the Denali Shuttle bus is this year of the year. I wanted to reserve the 9:30am 6-hr shuttle, but traveling with kids, it's hard to know exactly when we will arrive at the park. Will they let you take the next bus (or next day) if you are late? Thanks!

We booked our shuttle for last week in January. When we showed up at the WAC to get our tickets, they were taking reservations for that day. There were spaces on every time slot. The girl I spoke with said that tourism was way down this year. It may depend on your day though so personally, I'd book it ahead if you can to guarantee your time.

 

We left at 7 am and did the trip to Eielson. It was fabulous! Make sure to take a lunch with you. Our 11 year old loved the trip!
