Am wondering if anyone has been in port in Almeria for a day. Our ship does excusions to Granada and Alhambra for a full day, half day Almeria city or half day to Mojacar. Any suggestions about going to any of these places or whether doing any of them ourselves is a possibility.

Thanks,

Jean

Hi Patrice,

We ended up doing our own thing in Almeria in morning and loved it. We got off the ship straight after breakfast and most of Almeria was just waking up. There is an information centre there ( open from 8.30). We just came across it by walking up what looked like main boulevard from port and it was about a km. up. We walked up to castle and there are great views from there, well tended gardens and very peaceful ( at 9.30 am anyway). If you belong to EU it is free to get in, about 1 euro 60 I think, if not. However when I said we were from New Zealand he seemed to think that was in the EU so we got in free too! We did the trip to Mojacar in p.m. and didn't think all that much of the place ( picturesque but very touristy) but it was interesting getting there seeing the very barren, desert type countryside and the beautiful coast on way back.

Our friends did the full day tour to Granada and Alhambra and loved that.

So which is better-----? I don't know but whatever you chose you should enjoy it!

Jean
