Cruising the Explorer in November

Recommended Posts

We're thinking of taking a cruise from Bayonne on the Explorer in November but I'm concerned about the waters. For those who have cruised that month out of NJ, were the waters rocky? I know anything can happen at a given moment but considering there are 4 days at sea and we have never left from this area, I don't want to ruin 4 of the 8 days.

We usually fly down to Florida to leave from there but I've always wanted to leave from our own area.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I've left from NY in November.....very prone to motion sickness and I was fine. The waters were not rocky....even down by the carolinas where everyone warned me I'd have a rough time. Were we just lucky? I dont know but I'm confident enough that we are booked out of bayonne this Oct 29th! Take some form of preventative meds just in case. I start BONINE 2 days before. I take it every night on the cruise and a day or two more once we return.

BTW - we've been in rough waters by Florida so I guess you never really know!

Wife and I did 12 night Explorer out of Bayonne. First two days and last two days were rather chilly but we didn't have any issues with rough seas and Explorer is a beautiful ship. We wouldn't hesitate to sail her again out of NJ.:)

The first two days and last two days can be chilly and/or windy. There is enough going on inside the ship to keep you busy.

But if you want to maximize tanning and pool time, this is not the trip for you. Have to fly to Fl or SJ.

Which is why we usually go for the extended trips (12+ days) on the Ex, the 9 days are too short.

We have cruised out of NJ or Ny for the last 4 years in late Now or Early Dec. Only 1 cruise was rough the others perfect. I always pack some Bonine and take it for the first day or so as a precaution and have not been sick yet and we stay in an aft cabin.

Thanks everyone. This is exactly what I was hoping to hear. ;)

Just have to see if my husband can get off that week and if so, we'll be sailing for Thanksgiving to celebrate my daughters 16th birthday. :D
