prestodiner Posted August 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2009 We will only be in Victoria BC for a few evening hours and would like to find an "out of the way" place to eat dinner. We love the Food Network show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and like to experience eating at places where the locals go- the kind of places many tourists wouldn't find without some local inside information. We'd be up for any kind of food that is good food at a reasonable price. Any suggestions for the non-chain restaurants in Victoria that might be fun (and recommendations for best method of tranport to get there whether bus, taxi or on-foot). Thanks! cruiseryyc Posted August 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2009 Blighty's Bistro, 2006 Oak Bay Avenue but you will need a reservation so I'd suggest calling from home before you leave on your cruise or calling from the dock to ensure they have room (250-592-5111). A taxi would be your best bet for getting there.
Putterdude Posted August 13, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2009 A lot of people like the Bengal Curry in the Bengal Lounge in the Empress Hotel but personal fave is Pagliacci's....just a fun place to eat. http://www.fairmont.com/empress/GuestServices/Restaurants/TheBengalLounge.htm http://www.pagliaccis.ca/
c-to-sea Posted August 13, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2009 We had dinner last night at the Canoe Brew Pub. http://www.canoebrewpub.com/canoebrewpubmarinaand.html Good food with indoor and outdoor seating. The patio is right on the Gorge Waterway, just north of downtown. A quick cab ride from the ship and possibly a walk back to the ship through downtown after dinner. A good selection of beers. LKN-NC Posted August 13, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2009 We stopped at Spinnakers for an afternoon snack and really enjoyed it. It is a water taxi ride plus a short walk from the cruise docks. http://www.spinnakers.com/ The water taxi stops at Fisherman's Wharf on the Inner Harbor. Ask to be taken to the stop closest to Spinnakers. Alternately we walked around the entire Inner Harbor to Spinnakers and then taxied back. I'd recommend the following (I lived in Victoria for 25+ yrs); Barb's Fish and Chips @ Fisherman's Wharf (about a 6 block walk from the cruise terminal). Spinniker's; an excellent Brew Pub, located in Vic West. A taxi, a couple of buses, or walk to Fisherman's Wharf and take the harbour ferry. a friend's website has comments about a number of restaurants .. http://victoria.innerharbour.com/?q=node/3 This map will hopefully put things in perspective http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=100934763039761071004.0004665d7f3e28f06866d&ll=48.422394,-123.378224&spn=0.017259,0.045447&z=

prestodiner Posted August 17, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted August 17, 2009 Muchas gracias for all the info! I will now be armed (and dangerous?) with information for our group. Less than two weeks now and I'm getting pretty excited.
