Elegant Night Dinners??

I will be sailing the Splendor on 8/30/09 and want to know what these are all about.

DBF does not like to dress up :mad: but will if I ask him too.:) Is it mandatory? Will it be in the same restaurant as every other night? What is the difference since we have to dress up for dinner anyway?

Any/ALL information regarding formal nights would be much appreciated. :o

Same dining room as other nights and it's more like dressing for a nice resturant now. You will see everything from tux's to dockers and dress shirts. There are LOTS of boards on here about this subject and you'll get LOTS of answers. Just no tshirts or shorts at all, ever on that night. But we started out in Dress Military for DH and a gown for me we are now more of a suit coat, dockers and dress shirt for DH and little black dress for me. Personally we like the more relaxed elegant night and IMHO more people are going to the dining room now it's changed from Formal to Elegant which I'm sure was the whole purpose of the change! :)

What the different btw Elegant night and Captain night? Which night do we have to be dressier?

Thanks,

Tibbie

There are 2 elegant nights on any 7-day or longer cruise and the first of those has the Captain's Cocktail party for an hour right before dinner, it's not really the "Captain's night". Used to be free drinks and appetizers, but they're changing now so that the Captains cocktail party has reduced price drinks and no appetizers, but you can usually meet the captain and he introduces his head crew.

If he doesn't want to wear a jacket & tie you can always eat in the buffet instead.

Since the change to elegant night, DH has worn slacks and a dress shirt, no jacket or tie and he's been dressed just like lots and lots of other guys in the dining room.

A jacket and tie are only a suggestion, as long as you follow the code you'll be fine, and even at that there is some flexibility.

This is direct from the Carnival web site;

s there a dress code for the dining room? spacer.gif Depending on the length of the cruise, either formal dress or casual resort wear is required in the Dining Room. The dress requirement for children is the same. For those not wanting to dress up, the Lido restaurants are open nightly (with the exception of the last evening of the cruise), and have a casual dress code. However, shirts and shoes/footwear (flip-flops) must be worn at all times inside the Lido restaurants.

Cruise Casual Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cut-offs), dress shorts (long), collared sport shirts; Ladies - Casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, Capri pants, dress shorts, jeans (no cut-offs).

Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Casual dinner for ladies and gentlemen: gym shorts, basketball shorts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men and baseball hats.

Cruise Elegant Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Dress slacks, dress shirts. We also suggest a sport coat. If you wish to wear suits and ties or tuxedos, by all means we invite you to do so. Ladies - Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; if you‘d like to show off your evening gowns, that's great too! Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Elegant dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, T-shirts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, jeans, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men, sportswear, and baseball hats.

you dont have to wear a tie, have seen just slacks and a silk shirt, no tiesome people wear a dress shirt and no jacket, as long as it has a collar i really dont think they will say anything. they just suggest a coat, you dont have to wear one.

Thats ridiculous!!! He can wear a Polo Shirt and jeans on elegant night, some on here dont like it, but Carnival makes the rules. All Maitre D's will let you in pretty much in anything but shorts and t shirt on Elegant night.

Actually, check the rules, jeans are not permitted on elegant night either.
