sunsetbeachgal Posted August 17, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2009 Just booked a Princess cruise on one of their smaller ships for next September that, among other places, calls at Argostoli and Itea, Greece. Does anyone know anything about these stops? Are they picturesque and what are they known for? Thank you! (The rest of the ports we have either been to or are more well-known). kate52 Posted August 17, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 17, 2009 Itea is the port used for trips to Delphi. It is a very quiet, pretty little port, not much there, very few shops, beach with no facilities but fine for a swim, some nice cafes and bars. There are taxis in the town that do trips to Delphi, but can't remember the price they were charging. We stayed in port and had a lovely relaxing day, but regret not going to Delphi. Argostoli is in Cephalonia, a few years since we went there, a tender port. Nice surrounding scenery, modern town. The island is famous for being the setting of Captain Correlli's Mandolin, so trips usually focus on that. Hope this helps a bit, kate
moyaroo Posted August 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2009 We were in Itea on Azamara this April. The local cabs were swamped by our small ship, I would be hesitant to rely on taxi's to get to Delphi as the lines were long and slow. (On the positive side, the driver's were very good about showing up on schedule to take people back the only reported problems were with people who wanted to change their minds and go back early. Driver's were taking the prearranged and not the mind changers.
